Guy at co-op says I can feed my ducks chick starter forever. Is this accurate?

I'm giving them fermented organic chick starter from Prince. They are 5+ weeks old now and outside in their pen/yard all the time eating greens and bugs and whatever they find in the mudhole.

I asked the man at the store and he said they could eat the chick starter their whole life. It's 18% protein. Is he right on this?

Thank you.

Bump for an answer.

Chick starter will have too much protein as they get older. That's really only good for the first few weeks of life. Then they need to be on growers or "maintenance" pellets (depending on the brands you use, they have different names) which has less protein. Too much protein can cause angel wing and other issues.
