Good evening everyone,

This will be my second go at chickens. I had a small hobby place that had pigs, sheep, and chickens. My wife didn't like the drive to town, so we sold the place and moved back to crime ridden Shreveport.

I had RIR, and Bantams last time, but thinking hard about Americana's, probably six of them, this time.

I will be getting them next Thursday as little chicks :-).

Still reading but, should I get another breed, say to or three, still six total for variety, if so what kind?

I still have to check and make sure it is legal, and I believe it is.

Thanks for reading.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck getting the new chicks! You might check out the Laws forum if you need it https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/37/local-chicken-laws-ordinances-and-how-to-change-them and the Louisiana state thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/160883/louisiana-la-yers-peeps for local people.
Mixed flocks are fun to have, and the colorful egg basket is a real draw. For figuring out what breeds you want, besides the member reviews in the breed section, the Henderson chicken breed chart compares a lot of popular breeds http://www.sagehenfarmlodi.com/chooks/chooks.html To go with your blue/green egg layers, some popular brown egg laying breeds are Sussex, Wyandottes, Orpintons, Delawares, Australorps and Plymouth Rocks. For white eggs, a Leghorns, Ancona or Minorcas and a Welsummers or Marans for dark brown eggs.
