I have a quick question for the experienced chicken raisers here. While I was on vacation this summer my BF bought a new roo (or so he thought), I've been watching "him" for the last month and "he's" developed fast and is now the same size as all my other hens. I noticed that when the older Roo aproaches "him" he lays down submissively. I thought that maybe he's just submitting to the elder rooster. That was a week ago. I also have noticed that "he" hasn't developed any male features at all. I don't know how old he is, but like I said he's the same size as all the other chickens now, except the rooster, he's really big. But today after I mowed the lawn, which gets them really excited cause it stirred up all the bugs, I noticed my older rooster mounted the younger "rooster" and "he" accepted the Roo like all the other females do. Oh, and I haven't noticed any sounds from him either.

My question is at what age do the young roo's develop the male features so that you are sure they are male. If he ain't my BF is not going to be happy. Oh well.

Ha Ha Ha! I thought so, I think this is funny, but my BF is dissappointed. I am happy with the brood I have plus I have 7 babies to add to my brood now, I told him before he goes buying another one, let them get big enough to know if there isn't any boys in the bunch.

thanks ya'll.
