We worked on the coop this weekend, in between the rain spells... We got the hardware cloth over the vent that goes completely around the coop. Then we got the overhang on, to protect the vent from getting snow or rain blown in. We also got all the metal up on the roof. Next step... Flooring. We found a roll of vinyl flooring at Menards for $60. Then the walls will go up, doors and windows will be made, and then.... IT'S MOVING DAY!!!
So, my guys thought they were funny. I went in to make dinner while they finished up the roof. I came out to this.... I think they were waiting for some bbq chicken..... Not yet, guys... not yet!!

I'm just so proud of my guys!!! I put some crazy scratches down on paper... and they are making it reality!!! And all out of reclaimed material!!! Our biggest thing is, we only have weekends to work on it. So, we have to be mindful not to spend 14 hrs each day working on it, because it makes us all very cranky with each other. And my husband works those hours every day through the week. We want this to be a good learning experience for the grandmonsters. Not something they look back on and say... WE ARE NEVER DOING THAT WITH OUR KIDS!! We are all looking forward to the day we get to put the girls... and Roo out there!!!!

How many in your flock?? And can you give me an idea of where you put your roosting bars?
Roost bars should be above the nest boxes so that they donā€™t roost in the boxes and also not too close to a window, should be a draft free area (as much as possible), but besides that, it doesnā€™t really matter where you put them. That said though, if you have rafters in the coop, they probably wonā€™t use the roost bars. Mine didnā€™t. They prefer to roost in the highest (safest) place possible. If you donā€™t mind that, then you donā€™t need to do anything but if you donā€™t want them roosting you there then you will need to put some sort of wire or something over them so they canā€™t get up there. Even if you do let them roost there you should still have roost bars so theyā€™re not jumping too far.
