HA! Corn refiners want to change the name of high fructose corn syrup

My kids grew up on raw milk. They were raised in NC. I think much like selling eggs no one thought twice of neighbor selling to neighbor. I paid $1 a gallon back in the 80s and the milk came with a verbal guarantee that if the cows had gotten into some wild onions I could exchange the gallon for another.

Actually people getting sick and in some cases dying from unpasturized milk was the impetus behind the rules and regulations that are in place today. As opposed to today people used to be yelling for regulation to protect them.

Oh I know, but you can get sick the same from many other foods too. . . It's just called being clean and sanitary about it, or know who you're buying from.

Also, one thing I'm curious of, is if anyone's looked up who backed the studies for Stevia being toxic/DNA altering/causing sterility?

Decades ago in Washington state, we bought raw milk from a local dairy farmer. The state inspected and required bacteria count to be very low, if I remember correctly lower than commercial dairies. The big dairies were constantly trying to legally drive the raw milk producers out of business. Big companies don't want even the smallest competitors. The milk was so delicious. That cream sat at the top of the bottle just waiting for coffee or whipped cream.

Washington state actually does have a couple raw milk producers, one who is just a few hours from me, but they get hammered by the Gov't all the time. To actually sell or give away raw milk in this state, you first need to be a certified Dairy operation. (milking machines, steel equipment, big barn, the whole 9 yards. . . )

Oregon below us is awesome though. Selling and giving away raw Goat milk is perfectly okay. So jealous..

I think here in N.C. something has changed with the raw milk laws, one dairy farm locally has a bring your own jug policy. Pretty sure their inspectors know they are selling the milk. We hae been buying milk from them for years for our big fall chicken stews.

My raw milk supplier when I lived in West Asheville was a neighbor, three houses down. She used glass gallon jugs sanitized in her dishwasher. As I said, what happened between neighbors stayed between neighbors.

ETA: Here in Arkansas two of my biggest egg customers are growers (have commercial chicken houses) for Tyson. According to Tyson's rules they are forbidden to buy backyard eggs, but again...what Tyson doesn't know won't hurt them.
