Hi all,
I know it’s early to say but these look suspiciously like hackle feathers to me. Thoughts? (It’s a 5 week old Black Copper Maran) Thanks!

I think with the BCM you have to watch for the gold in the shoulder wing area for the boys.
Keep an eye on that comb, it will tell before the feathers will.
Thanks! I know they say the feathers don’t show until they’re older but this is my first Copper Maran and even though I know the hens also have the colouring on their necks I felt they were extra pointy lol.

I have a few Easter egger hens with very pointy and shiny neck feathers. They were very boyish as chicks!

5 week olds don't have hackle feathers. With a BCM you're looking for gold color leakage onto back and shoulders if it's a male. Right now I'm thinking this is a girl, as there's no comb development.
