Wow, LOL, I used to read the posts about the dreaded 'must have babies' disease and I admit it, I kind of laughed, thinking it was just a funny exaggeration . . .

. . . until I went to Tractor Supply Company today for a different but related reason (wanted to check out their prices on chicken stuff, and by the way, am glad I went, I can save a TON on bedding!!! Also feeders . . . ) and there they were. Baby chicks. Little yellow fluffy things that went 'peep peep peep'. They were bigger than I expected, and they looked pretty healthy to me, eating, drinking, wandering around, having naps, and apparently sunbathing under the heat lamp . . . what is it that chicks do when they lie down flat with their wings straight out to either side? Do adult chickens do this? It looks kind of funky!

I got the gooshy 'awwwwww' face. And stood there like an idiot looking down into the container for minutes, just watching the chicks. It's a good thing they were Cornish Rock meat birds otherwise goodness knows what might have happened!!!

One of the employees told me that they'd just gotten the chicks today, and they were still waiting on the 'mixed red' chicks and the 'bantam' chicks. I asked whether there would be Rhode Island Reds in the bunch and she said, yeah, probably. I have no idea what other kind of red chicks there are, but . . . I'm going to have to stuff my ears with cotton wool when I go back, 'cause it's too cute!!

I couldn't believe it when I caught myself thinking, 'well, our city allows lots of birds, we'd just have to pay more for the permit . . . and the original coop design houses ten birds . . . we *could* just build a regular sized coop like the plans say . . . '

I snapped out of it, but yikes. You guys weren't kidding!

We'll see what happens when I have to go back there and there are adorable little chestnut colored egg layers looking up at me and going, 'Dude, I hate this galvanized feed trough, won't you take me home with you? Peep Peep Peep'!!!

*sigh*
