had a problem with dogs OWNERS SURPRISED ME

Of all the post's about neighbors not caring("they're just chickens"), it's nice to see a thread of a neighbor taking responsibility for their dog's actions and acting upon it. Congrats!!!

You are very lucky to have responsible pet owners like your neighbors. Yesterday we had another issue with our neighbor's dog. She breaks out of her kennel and chases and scatters our flock. Aside from missing tail feathers, No casualties, but it is just a matter of time before we loose one or two. My neighbor would never come over to say that they are "sorry" or they "would try to keep the cage more secure". It's not the dogs fault. It is kept unattended and basically ignored by the family. When she can make a break she does, and then it's next to impossible to get her back in. The other neighbor lady always help the kids fix the hole in the kennel and corral the dog. The dog spent this winter with no straw in her box, faced to the north and no heated water dish. Can't call the Humane society because the other neighbor lady that fixes the kennel hole has told me that if someone were to call for animal cruelty then the animal would surely be taken and most likely put down. Is this an issue with animal cruelty or my chickens? Can't complain to the neighbor with the dog because he won't reason, he never has in the past.

Oh I agree with you all the way. This will make their 3rd dog in 9 years. The first female ran away (smart dog), the last dog was "put down" because the neighbors new chickens & goats (not referring to us) made him a mean and vicious animal. This Idiot neighbor is so deluded. He told me when we first moved in that the last place they lived his 2 labs were stolen. Sounds like they took off or someone released them.

Would putting the dog down be any more cruel than leaving it neglected outside with no companionship, no heat and no water?
