Is that serious? I'm not trying to start an argument. In fact I think I have been neutral about this whole topic.
LIKE I SAID, I would not eat my own chickens or kill my chickens for others to eat. I said that if you raise chickens to eat then that's you. I would not do it.
I'm done with this thread if I'm going to be attacked.
I did not mean to attack anyone in my post either. Sorry if there are any hurt feelings. I just find this whole concept interesting!!! This is the first time we have had chickens, and the first time eating something that we have raised. I have eaten store bought chicken my entire life. I am just excited about eating our chickens and knowing what we are eating.
I've never eaten my own chickens but i know what u mean. You know what it was fed and that it lived a happy life and your hard work is finally payed off. I also wanted to raise meat chickens but i had to put down a duckling that was VERY sick and i knew right then I could never raise chickens for meat lol Hope you enjoy it!
Sorry, just a side observation:
Am I correct in my observation that, those who do have chickens as their avatar, don't eat their chickens,and those who do eat their chickens, dont have a chicken avatar or dont have one at all?
I'm not trying to start a fight either, and make no value judgement on people with or without chicken avatars.
( I did edit the wording slightly, shortly after I posted this, as to more accuratly express my meaning)
just my 2cents- I think its great that you ate something you raised. thats going back to a simpler time. I bought a few st run chicks that I think will be roosters and all I see is little drumsticks running around, that my GF made me name- Drumstick, Frier,and Omelette.

Ha! Clever observation, I wonder if it holds true -would be interesting to take a poll about that.
I, for one, am a happy omnivore and am raising chickens and ducks for eggs. Most of the breeds I have are dual purpose, and I am thinking of giving some broilers a try next year -or maybe much later in the year. I feel more and more that if I'm going to eat meat then I should be willing to raise and prepare it, and I think I'm getting closer to that point.
And back to the topic... (
) I think it's great that you could put your roo to good use, and a dollar for processing seems like a great deal.
I am a happy omnivore as well, I just eat the nameless"other peoples" chickens;
The ones that they grow somewhere and are picked strait from the vine before packing and sending to my local store...
That is how it works right?
