Had to bury my 19 chicks today.....

Thanks....we are devastated. We keep them in our garage because the coop out back wasnt going to be read until this weekend. the garage door got left open by mistake and that is all it took. We cant blame the dog because it's her breed that is what she is suppose to do is hunt.

How sad! I went through something similar several years ago, where my German Shorthaired Pointer jumped a 6 ft fence and killed my 6 hens. I'm sorry for your loss, but glad to hear that you are getting more right away! It took me years to get chickens again!
It's hard enough when they are killed by predators, but I think it's worse when it's your own pet.

Aww honey, I am so sorry for your loss! It's been 5 years since I had chickens the first time. I raised them for 7 years, loved them. My next door neighbor's chocolate lab ate them. It is horrifying, I know. All I can say is I hope your new chicks bring you much happiness and that your beagle learns to respect what is yours. HUGs!

So sorry to hear about that, but you can train your beagle NOT to eat the birds. I have a 4 year old beagle that has been around chickens for 2 years now. He loves 'em. He even gets to go out in the chicken yard with me all of the time. Of course, when I first got chickens, he did try to eat them, however, it didn't take him long to learn that they are "babies" and "no-be easy". Now I can set baby chicks on the floor and he'll just lay there watching them and sniffing them. Hopefully you can work with yours to do the same that way you don't have to worry about this happening again just in case a door doesn't get shut, or locked, etc.

Again, so sorry

I just don't want you to think that just because it's a beagle that there's no way that he can be around the chickens.

I am really sorry to hear about your loss...they do become like our babies, especially when we've raised them from a day or two old or we hatched them...so sorry
