One month ago we had 7 baby chicks born. 2 had splayed legs. We tried the treament on both. Did not work. The 1st one passed a couple days later. Had the other one and at 1st he was doing well with one leg. But the bigger he got the other leg got bad. He was falling over all the time and the others were knocking it down. So my DH did what he needed to today. I am very sad about it but know he is in a better place and not suffering anymore. It still hurts though. So now I have 5. I pray the ones due on Monday hatch better. Thanks for listening.

I know how you feel. We had a chick hatch that looked perfectly normal at first. Over the next few weeks the chick developed a crossed beak. I wouldn't have minded keeping the chick but the beak progressively got worse and worse to the point the poor thing couldn't really eat well. I tried everything, trimming the beak and the Penetran and nothing helped. DH and I decided it was better to put the chick down than let it suffer. It was very hard to do. I have never had to put an animal down by my own hands before but I know we made the right decision and it sounds like you did too. I know we all hope that this is a situation we won't have to face, but if we are going to keep animals it is part of life. More

to you and your DH.

I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. It sounds like the poor little thing was suffering, so this was the kindest thing you could do for him.
