My tiny crew of 13 (now 6 days old) had to be moved out of their brooder during the day as the weather here was making the heat a real problem. Now they have their grow out pen for the hot afternoons and the brooder at night. During the day they have access to half a dog crate with their light just in case anyone gets cold. They are now thriving and the pasty butt issue has not been a problem for the 2 days they have been out. They seem to be finding small bugs as the floor is dirt and they have access to grit. I have to say I love this site as I can share my excitement about my thriving babies!!
Has anyone else had success with the little ones in a larger area? I assume when a broody hen raises chicks they are out and about the 1st week, can anyone weigh in on this?

The Americana with yellow and white (between th BOs) is Olive aka. Ollie. (I ordered 5 Americana pullets and one roo so hopefully she is one of the pullets..hehe ..although could probably be a good name for a roo as well)
