I had about 25 days - started out on the North Island and worked my way south, staying in youth hostels. I did hire a car, which was a luxury...

Did some of the normal touristy things like Rotorua and Waitomo. Crossed to the South Island on the ferry and again stayed in hostels all the way south to Invercargill and then up to Christchurch. Then flew back to Auckland.

I tried to get into the bush as often as I could and the South Island was superb for that with tracks everywhere, especially the wonderful Te Anau. Great country around the Franz Josef glacier also. It was September so the weather was cool but lovely.

It certainly sounds like you made the most of your time over here

I like Rotorua ..... Last school holidays we took our 3 kids down there & they had a blast! And of course they loved going on the luge the best! LOL

You really must make your way back to this wonderful land one day
