I have 4 black Jersey Giant pullets with this roo:
He is {(Naked Neck x Silkie) X Ameraucana}.
I'd set some of their first fertile eggs around the end of Dec and they all died before they reached full-term.
I figured I'd give them another try.
I hope they'll all be hatching in 21 days
(and there are 6 broody hens with eggs (chicken and duck) that should be hatching in between now and then).
And no, lol, I have no idea where I'm going to put them all. There are 3 brooders with chicks and ducklings in the spare room already.
I do things so bass-ackwards, sometimes. It's almost time to set up the lights in the spare room to start seedlings for the garden.
The Naked Neck eggs are from the dark-skinned NN hens with the red-skinned frizz NN roo. I haven't hatched any from that pen in a long time.
There is a blue clean-faced blue egger hen that moved in the coop with the NN girls and frizz NN roo. I'd been putting her pretty blue eggs in the 'eating egg' cartons and then it hit me --- naked neck frizzled green-eggers!!
The hand turning thing might be the downfall. I don't mind doing it, it's just remembering to do it. I need someone to remind me
The sad thing is I'll set more eggs next week!!
I have a 4th bator, a Hova, saved for emergencies and 2 homemade 'coolerbators' and looks like 2 new broody-girls on golf balls in the big coop.
Not this many tho, the thought of that many chicks at one time makes my head spin!
I've got 21 days to make arrangements, right?
At the time it was a 'mentally ill laugh'. I couldn't decide which 'not to set', so heck, I'll set all the ones I want to set. Bless his heart, all Hubby said was "Just remind me when they're coming, I'll tell OMC (the feedmill) to be ready".
