Half Black and Half White Silkie - Please explain?

Quote:
It IS a full-blooded Silkie. I purchased hatching eggs from another BYCer, and she has a BBS pen and a white pen.

How many toes does it have? It looks like a cochin or cochin/silkie cross chick. Silkie toes would be black, they don't turn black later.

If a silkie chick hatches with white tips on it's feet, they usually turn black with age. Yours should turn black. I think yours should be blue. Splash at that age are usually white almost.

Okay looking back at the feet, that much white may not all turn black. Hard to tell. The white on it's feet doesn't mean it's a mixed breed. Sometimes parents through chicks like this.

It is either a dark blue or black. The white on the wings , head and belly will disappear as the bird gets its adult feathering. Definitely not a splash. It is not uncommon for silkies to have some pink toe tips; may indicate one copy of the gene for dark legs or skin.

I agree..... The coloring will disappear as they get older and start molting. As for the toes, I have hatched some like this and most of them turn black in time. If they don't they get sold as pet quality. I have also hatched out ones with wierd coloring and they turned out to molt it all away.

Good luck.
