i got esmeralda in october 2014. the first thing i noticed about her is that when her crop extends, she shows a large spot of bare skin -

- which is why i decided to take her and my other 3 bantams inside for the winter months when the temperatures plummeted. in our climate, we get -25 to -30 celsius (-13 and -22 fahrenheit) for long periods of time and i could not see how she would have been able to survive in the chicken coop - even with a heater raising the temperatures somewhat...
about 2 weeks ago, she has also turned featherless on her belly. no other bird is showing bare patches of skin and i am not seeing any parasites either (i have been treating my flock with revolution). so i am wondering if she is moulting. i am new to chickens and have never seen a moult. does anybody have any ideas what might be going on?

i also find it quite curious that her feathers seem to be growing in rows...
she is otherwise a very active little bird (hence not broody
) and still laying eggs, enjoying her food and the mealworm treats inside a ball she can kick around with another bantam hen.
