Halloooo, Chicks ‘n’ ‘Ckens!

Hi! :frow Welcome to BYC! Why don’t you want any hens? Just curious.
Hi there.
I started trying to get just roosters so they can free range inside our fenced garden and also around the house and yard in the warmer months.. because my other half has had Lyme Four times, and has quit gardening because of the fear of ticks. Chickens are great tick eaters, but Co also worked at a chicken’farm’ when younger and didn’t want reminders of That! experience!.
—of course, discovering that two of our cockerels Weren’t turned into a happy experience until they were lost.
We are really enjoying having our big boy Orp, and now that we’ve added an Astralorp, maybe even more happy will happen!
Thanks for asking!

Guineas are known as champion tick eaters, if the chickens aren't doing a good enough job.
I had heard that!
I just happened to hear about a friend-of-a-friend farmer who wanted to rehome an Orpington and an Ameraucana (doc?) back in May when my other half was off visiting my SIL for long enough that I could get a coop established before the return date... only I think at that point that farmer wasn’t sure after talking with me that I could handle what happens if two roosters don’t get along, even apart from hens.. so she offered me two of her extra-extra Silkie cockerels, but that’s how that went.

So far, so Good!! Turned out to be a perfect night to sleep in a bedding box in the run below the coop, and this morning they reestablished the same pecking order again.
I’m hoping that Lance (my Orp) will let Andy (my new guy) into the coop tonight, if I find them both around the fun part of the garden this afternoon I’ll be happy.
