HALLOWEEN Hatch-a-Long 2016 w/ Hosts, Mike, Sally & BantyChooks

We had tickets for the hospital fund raiser, so I forced myself to go. Had a great time and came home to 2 ducklings! I'll take pictures once they are in the brooder, they are still wet and quite tired.

Ok, on my mobile which dislikes uploading pics... My last pic on my phone was of the 21 egg stash I found in my duck coop:



I Candled them and on the right were the larger air cells. Used them inn a frittata. Bantams, large chickens and ducks all laying in that clutch.

My next to last pic was this sunrise that same morning:

So, sally's duck eggs are 1 week along as of tomorrow.

And one of my girl ducklings passed away this morning. She was fine last night before bed when I cleaned their box, this morning She was lethargic, Gave her electrolyte water, and by noon she was dead. Crossing my fingers for a lot of girl ducks from the ancona eggs.

I hope you get a ton!!

Well, I only got 3 out of what ended up being 8, not 7 eggs.:'( I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with my brand spankin new Brinsea Octagon 40, and I have 39 more eggs in there!

Locking down some BCM eggs and 1 OE egg tonight, we'll see how it goes.

what humidity are you running at and you checked the temp with another calibrated thermometer? sorry about the eggies

I just entered day 18 with my 2 remaining silkie chicks, I candled them last night and saw healthy bouncing around in there from both, but since both have very nasty saddled airbags, I'm leaving them up right in their little egg cartons to hatch, hopefully making it so I don't have to worry about trying to assist before i'm ready to learn how to do it. LOL

I just entered day 18 with my 2 remaining silkie chicks, I candled them last night and saw healthy bouncing around in there from both, but since both have very nasty saddled airbags, I'm leaving them up right in their little egg cartons to hatch, hopefully making it so I don't have to worry about trying to assist before i'm ready to learn how to do it. LOL

Loving your tank!! I've wanted one like that....well, since forever. (I've got 3 smaller ones)
I keep seeing guppies and such for sale and I keep reminding myself "I will not get fish (right now), I will not get fish (right now)

Good morning everyone!!!

I went to a small animal sale yesterday, sold my chicks and a rooster....and was hoping the Ameraucauna breeder be there with eggs.
He wasn't.

And I didn't want any of the breeds of hatching eggs that were there.

But my ears still have radar for picking up when someone says "hatching eggs" apparently.

I heard "button quail hatching eggs!" I bid a $1...someone else bid $2 and I threw in a $3 bid. I got them sight unseen.

Ok, so it was 3 DOZEN hatching eggs!

They are SO tiny! It appears they made a 3+ hour journey so it's possible they may not hatch.
(Especially the way they were packed)

But like, what am I going do with button quail??? The things I get myself into.

Soooo, guess I will be hatching; several dozen of my EE eggs ("trying" everything 4 weeks+ and under)...AND button quail.

Anyone have tips for hatching button quail?? I'm letting them rest today. Putting them on as soon as I get the 'bator washed.
Lower end of the scale, 99.5 degrees instead of 100...stop turning at 13 days and they hatch 16 days on...
And I have to grind their (higher protein) feed so they can eat it because they're the size of bumblebees when they hatch.

Am I close?
