Lovely chicks!!

And lovely eggs!

Quote: That is awesome!!!
And I like the way it worked out for you too because I agree...it's great to see how your grown up chicks are doing.

At least that's what I read last night.
So I don't think we'll be eating them. Even if they were bigger, I don't think I want to eat them.
Tiny itsy bitsy fancy fried eggs??? Or boiled? Wouldn't those be cute??

I had to look this up. I learn something new EVERY day. I guess people do eat these teeny, tiny eggs. Wowsers.
I think my Old English Game bantam eggs are too small to cook...lol.
But they looked really nice in the dog's dish so I might do the odd thing with them.
I could see cooking tiny quail eggs for a fancy occasion because they'd look really cool.
I'm not sure I'd want to do it often though.

They're supposed to be really good for you.
But first I have to successfully hatch some first. Hubby thought we should make a small omelet out of the hatching eggs this morning...lol.

Nice avy Wicked!
Good morning Mike!!!

Thank you! Halloween is my favorite day of the year!!!

I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for Oct. 1 to put that avy up!!
woot.gif

I already bought fake hard plastic rats and spiders and put them out already.
The chickens like my foam headstones WAY to much.

Hello, sounds like you are getting ready for Halloween, did the chickens destroy the headstones?
Thanks for that info on quail, Mike.
thumbsup.gif

I will have to look into it more too

Yes the chickens did destroy my headstones!
barnie.gif

I had them up along the house too.
This is the only one that was "kind of" salvageable.

The others were in pieces.
On a good note, no chickens got sick. I was worried.
They did that last year while we were combining.

Ohhhhhh. My. Gosh. The sweetness factor!!
Babies are SO tiny.

14 hatched, one pipped and one doing nothing. Here's the new crew:
Very nice!!!

Hi all!
frow.gif
Hopefully you don't mind if I join in with all the fun! I don't have an incubator, nor do we have enough space to keep more chickens, but we may be placing some Guinea eggs under a broody Orpington or two, letting them hatch, and then giving the keets to some friends. Even if we don't do this I would love to learn and maybe eventually I'll be hatching chicks myself!
Welcome!

They really did destroy them, glad non of the chickens got sick!

Good morning everyone!!!

I went to a small animal sale yesterday, sold my chicks and a rooster....and was hoping the Ameraucauna breeder be there with eggs.
He wasn't.
hit.gif
And I didn't want any of the breeds of hatching eggs that were there.
sad.png

But my ears still have radar for picking up when someone says "hatching eggs" apparently.
hu.gif

I heard "button quail hatching eggs!" I bid a $1...someone else bid $2 and I threw in a $3 bid. I got them sight unseen.

Ok, so it was 3 DOZEN hatching eggs!
ep.gif

They are SO tiny! It appears they made a 3+ hour journey so it's possible they may not hatch.
(Especially the way they were packed)

But like, what am I going do with button quail??? The things I get myself into.

Soooo, guess I will be hatching; several dozen of my EE eggs ("trying" everything 4 weeks+ and under)...AND button quail.

Anyone have tips for hatching button quail?? I'm letting them rest today. Putting them on as soon as I get the 'bator washed.
Lower end of the scale, 99.5 degrees instead of 100...stop turning at 13 days and they hatch 16 days on...
And I have to grind their (higher protein) feed so they can eat it because they're the size of bumblebees when they hatch.

Am I close?

Ok, going to share some photos that some of you have seen before in the past. Wicked, you sound like me...when I was just starting to hatch. I loved the experience of just hatching different things..hmmm..I still haven't hatch any type of pheasant..I think that would be fun. Anyway, I tried the little buttons..love them..bought a new big cage for them..thought I would keep them indoors. Didn't take me long to discover that I personally thought it be best that they be in a larger area. Found a guy that had an awesome big bird enclosure. Off they went. :)

My little buttons

Here they are a little older.

My DH put pexi glass all along the bottom and quite a ways up so they couldn't fit through the bars. Cute little stinks. :)

Thank you! (And since you asked, and as Grandma, it's kinda my duty:).

Rowan meets Papa Bill

Gramma (me) introduces Rowan to his big brothers, Toby & Silas.

This is great! Thank you, what a dolly, he can be called a dolly at this age. :p And the others are handsome. Just had a daughter have her 5th boy! She says they are done. She really was hoping this one would have been a girl, but of course, she loves this new little man.
