HALLOWEEN Hatch-a-Long 2016 w/ Hosts, Mike, Sally & BantyChooks

I am having an issue with singleton hatches. This latest duck hatch was a bust. One duckling hatched, three internal pips never broke through the shell, the rest never pipped.

Well, at least I have this adorable little drake. He is in with some week old chicks, so he has company and isn't alone.

he's precious.
I've had that problem. My first two hatches, were both solo chicklets. :(

But, each time, i only had 2 eggs at lock down.... so...

The middle one finally confessed. He was trying to wake up the chicks so that they would hatch. Honestly, I'm more mad that he lied about it. Curiosity and impatience, I can understand. Lying is inexcusable.
That's what my 12 year old gets in trouble for.

I know he's gonna do bad things, he has impulse control issues, and stealing is pretty much guaranteed if you tell him something doesn't belong to him, he'll steal it. Because of this, he wouldn't get in trouble, if he just confesses when he's asked to tell the truth about whatever.

He. always. lies.

and he's always caught.

Drives me nuts.

I tell him "I wouldn't be asking you to confess, if I wasn't 100% sure what happened." LOL

I hope after he hits puberty, that some of that will be outgrown.

But the lying gets to me, a lot.

There is one more egg still to hatch, but it is the upside down aircell. It was under a broody hen that decided some day old hatchlings were better than sitting on eggs. So, I don't know exactly when this one is due to hatch.

Sorry about the others, but this one is adorable! I so want to add ducks to our little farm.

Btw, here's Houdini now...

also a cute pic of my Buff Polish (currently just called Buff) and my Araucana boy, (Ginger, but that does t sound manly, and recently realized he's a boy...likely will be renamed) These two and Silver(Splash Maran) love love love! sitting top of their brooder heh...

I candled the eggs I have in the bator on Day 7, which was yesterday. 4/12 EEs and 3/6 SLWs developing. 2 blood rings, both EEs. One of the developing SLWs is cracked and covered with clear nail polish, really hoping that one makes it! Rest of them seem to be clears. Any ideas why? They were shipped, but well packaged. Temperature is controlled by the STC 1000, humidity hovering between 30-40%. I let them sit 18 hours before setting. They are turned 3-5 times a day.

Could it be because it's the time of year for molting? A breeder I talked to said she had no hatching eggs available simply because they aren't fertile now.

These guys are due the Saturday right before Halloween

the roos can put a stop with molting and the colderweather yes

I feel the same way. I think they are just infertile, I'll leave them in a few more days, but really I'm pretty happy, I was only expecting a dozen eggs and got 2 instead, so if I think of it like it's 10/12 eggs I feel much better, haha. Let's just hope they all get to hatch.
I hope they do too!!!

Soooo the above fell into the bator
