Congratulations on the chicks, I hope they are ok.

Thanks. I believe the state vet is going to advise to breed for resistance, which I feel is best since we have many people up here who I suspect have positive flocks but have never tested for it. A lot of people post asking for advice on treating chicken "colds" but don't test to find out what it is (which given the cost I understand). So I know I could easily be reinfected.
Yes, I'm certain lots of flocks are infected.

Quote: Yes, that is correct.

I've got 4 D'uccle chicks out.

I wish I were happier about it, but my chickens just got confirmed as having LT and MS so I don't know if these little ones are going to catch MS now too from sharing the incubator with my eggs. A fifth one is clearly stuck in the shell with a partial zip and I don't think I can help it because I know my house is probably covered in the MS bug and I don't want to bring it out of the incubator because then I couldn't put it back in.

.
oh no
Saris I am so sorry awwww

I've been so busy taking care of 40-50 chicks after working 8-10hrs/day and finding homes for the ones I don't want/can't keep that I haven't got to post here... so all the sebrights from Ideal have passed. 2 Turkens have passed now, with the possibility of 1 or 2 following...fresh ground up food (veggies or protein sources like meat or egg) seem to be working well to keep them eating...which seems like the biggest factor to them dying...poop looks fine, no breathing issues, just not eating/drinking... All of the Welp chicks have done great with the exception of 1 cornish...the rest are greedy eaters, run around, chase my hand and drink well...very happy with them. I did a huge rehome last night, 20 birds... 16 chicks and 4 adults(2 roosters) so I was super stoked about that as I have been stressing about the roosters I'm not supposed to have, and all these chicks at once has been kinda overwhelming... I rehomed 6 other chicks earlier in the week, and over all I'm very happy I can spend more one on one time with who's left to ensure they are interested in what's going on around them

Now, for hatching!... I need to take some pics n post them... I had a German Lemon Cuckoo Niederreiner, 2 Swedish Blue Isbars, and a double tufted Black Araucana all hatched waiting for me when I got home yesterday...have 1 Swedish Blue Isbar still deciding to hatch or not, and 3 or 4 Buff Laced Brahma due to hatch any time now...two of the brahma have very long or double air pockets for aircells, so we'll see. Next up for next week(past Halloween) is a couple Ayam Cemani (not CJs unfortunately), and Tolbunt Polish...

Whew, that was a lot. Sorry for the wall of text. I'll take some pictures tonite

Back to work!
have you double checked temps in the brooder? I am sure you have, I am so sorry beautiful, so sad. I am happy they are hatching so well!!! Cant wait for pics!!!

I am so relieved. Last night I candled my trader Joes egg's and I couldn't see movement in any of them. I prayed over my egg's before going to bed. I candled them this morning with the fear of them having quit, but happy to report that all 6 were bopping around their egg's and I did a happy dance! Thank the good lord for answered prayers. They are on day 8.

awwwww how did you know something was wrong? can you tell us what all has been happening?

They got bubbles in their eyes and nasal discharge, wheezing, sneezing and lethargy.

be fore that we had a raccoon break into their run and kill my oldest hen. My solution was to lock them in their coop at night and let them out in the morning until we got the run reinforced. Their coop is pretty small, but previously it was only for sleeping/laying. they spent about an extra 3 hours a day in it though since I usually didn't let them out until 8:30 am. That extra time in a too small coop must've stressed them out, especially following the raccoon attack. But with the bubbles and obvious respiratory signs I had to know what it was.

They improved a lot after we stopped locking them in the coop. Most didn't even receive antibiotics.
