Had a late night surprise, last night. My youngest had flag football practice and the oldest had a band performance at the middle school football game last night. So needless to say we were out later than we wanted. Well, we had a little surprise waiting in the incubator when we got home... but first a little bit of background.
I don't know how many of you are familiar with Hurricane Hermine that hit Florida a couple weeks ago. Well, it knocked out the power here for three days. I had 28 eggs in the incubator at the time: 14 coturnix quail and 14 khaki campbell ducks. Ended up loosing all the quail and 12 of the duck eggs while trying to salvage the hatch as much as possible.
Fast forward two weeks and we get home from football/band activities and there is strange chirping coming from the incubator. Turns out not all the eggs were duck eggs. Contacted the person who sold me the eggs and we both had a good laugh. Apparently, her juvenile silkie and cemani started mating/laying. Welcome to the world little one...
