HALLOWEEN Hatch-a-Long 2016 w/ Hosts, Mike, Sally & BantyChooks

I tried to look up how old my eggs were in the spring when they went without heat. All I mention in the May HAL is "They've survived being left open twice with no heat; once for the day and once for about 4 hours." And those were in my incubator. The day we did taxes I turned it off and opened the incubator when I turned the eggs...but I forgot to turn it back on and shut the lid before we left.

But everything was fine in my case.

I also had broodies switch nests and one nest of eggs were left uncovered all day in 9C weather. Eggs were ice cold when we got home at 2am, no movement at all from the embryos. I put a broody back on the nest and everything was fine.

I'm thinking you'll be fine.

Thank you!

That is very reassuring. The power just came back on. The eggs were quite chill, but I am hoping they will be ok. 7 of the eggs I am especially hoping make it.

They are part of my son's FFA project and he doesn't even know about this outage since he is sleeping.

I know I was really shocked when my eggs were ok, so I'm hoping the same for you.
I've really got to start writing stuff down when it happens. I just never think about it at the time...lol.
Hope to hear good news whenever you decide to check them. Plz let us know how you make out.

Between my 3 coops I'm going through about a 50lb bag a week.

I have 44 birds and go thru a bag every 7-10 days.

X 2  Silkies are always brooding.
And most of mine are crosses.

I think EE's are the best thing since sliced bread. :celebrate
Very tough, very dependable.
I LOVE mine!:love
I had 2 EE's go broody this fall.
But they don't seem as heartbroken as Old English bantams or Silkie if they don't raise a brood.

My OEGB mope for ages if I take their eggs...

Awesome :fl
I can understand the bad roo!! Good luck on the new eggs!!
:fl lol!!!
mine is a registered lippett Morgan with lines back to the founding Morgan- Figure
She's a sweetheart I trust her with my 4yo completely! She rides and drives :love

Have I mentioned I'm jealous?? :drool

Ok, I did the candling on them, but I couldn't tell anything yet. This is my day 3 now, and the eggs are sort of a light creamy tan color. I will wait until my day 7 and try to do it again.
Good luck with your day 7 candle!

So, what's up? A Holiday Hatch A Long! How fun.

So 4 ducklings from 4 eggs, 3 girls and 1 maybe boy... I love that Welsh Harlequins are semi auto sexing. When I get them in the brooder tonight, I'll be washing and sanitizing the bator for the 18 ancona eggs from @Sally Sunshine !
Congratulations and good luck!

My eggs are getting here today!!!!

Everything is set up and ready. I think I even have the incubator in a spot the kid can't get to. (I know she'll test me on that statment) Now just trying to find the candling accessory I made for my flash light.

Hopefully I'm not too late to join. Boo! :) I have eggs due to hatch the 9th of October.
Welcome!

Eggs are here and air cells are looking acceptable for shipped eggs. I'm not going to even dream about a good hatch until at least half have made it to day 7.
We'll see how they do

I will be hatching, What I don't know yet... I will let you guys know by monday! Hopefully. I am going to be Sally, I know you have given it to me before, but can you give me the link to calibrating thermometers and hydrometers? I got another incubator and i need to calibrate my thermometer. I also need to get another thermometer... I am just going to get a basic one!
Welcome!

Howdy! So the hatching part of this adventure, I just set 8 eggs under my broody Australorp, StarFire! Is it OK if they aren't set IN October?
This is StarFire first time, she is a year old or 18 most probably!

Welcome!

I have eggs in lock down right now. Man, the air cells were bad..(shipped) this time. Leghorn's were the worst, also have some Australorp eggs in. Going to have me some new egg layers probably by Feb/March. :) I better get some girls out of these! Only 6 each made it to lock down.

I have 5 eggsunder a broody, due to hatch october 8th.
I'd like to join! This is my first broody and first hatch!
Welcome and good luck!

Day 18 for one of my broodies (it's like an epidemic with these Australorp girls). Of the 5 remaining, one is too dark to see into. The other 4 look great. Chicks are starting to push against the air cell membrane. Pullet eggs always seem to hatch a bit early. Might have babies tomorrow morning.

What are the odd that the eggs in the incubator are still good? Lost power this afternoon for about 2.5 hours. Lost power again and it still isn't back on yet. And, we are reaching the three hour mark.

I have a car adaptor so I can plug the incubator in, in the car. However, about 5+ minutes after the power went out we heard gunshots coming from somewhere in the nearby area. So, I am not stepping outside "period" until after the sun is back in the sky.
I hope you get some to hatch.

For rose of you in the north. Zone 6 here. Do you hatch all year long? I want to try araucana eggs again but I thought maybe I should wait until March or April. I would keep the chicks inside until they got feathers...6 weeks or so. What do you all do?

I'm zone 9, so I am not answering your question, but I am asking you one... Are you ordering eggs or bidding, or do you already have some? I have one 8 day old right now, and 24 still alive and growing [in incubator-Day 17]out of 60+ eggs received from a breeder in Redding CA... I am trying to find various new blood, for future pairings with whatever hatches from redding. the breeder has made it clear that his lines need fresh blood badly...
TIA
Monique

5, and I hatch whenever. They feather faster when brooded outside.
