I did. But, what I originally had wanted to do, won't work if I end up with multiple ducks... I also didn't think I was getting more then 2 ducks, so I ordered 10 from metzer farms... *hides face*

Then the guy called me and said more hatched, so he was sending me more, and was throwing in a random assortment of extra baby chicks he had... and I was all like... sure, okay.

Then realized... uhm... now I have to make a bigger area for the ducks! LOL

Yeah. Well, and don't get me started on the turkey pen. I have 1 red sex linked hen, that's bonded to my turkey's and goes into distress if I try to separate her. So she's going to end up living with my turkeys. I don't know how well that's going to work but we will see.

I never liked them either but I think the kids are more about fashion now than comfort lol. They look cute, so they're the best!

Thank you, that is a plausible explanation. I have hatched 200 chicks and never have seen this. Being this is a new pairing, and two are involved, it may be genetic.

I post it for people quite often... But I don't really believe it.

Day 5 for the incubator. Out of 27, there are 11 clears and 2 possible blood rings. I'll be keeping the possible blood rings in until day 10, just to be sure. Better fertility than my last round of eggs set. My mature rooster and his girls are still only about 30%, but my cockerel seems to be doing a better job of hitting his mark. Almost all the pullet eggs were fertile. 7 possible red sexlink eggs, 3 Easter Egger pullet eggs, 3 black sexlink cross eggs, and 3 from my Barred Rocks.

Glad the fertility has improved!

Posting a quick update before I call it a night.

Woke up this morning to three early (I thought) Ameraucana mix chicks in the incubator. They were from eggs my white Ameraucana hen laid, but I don't know which rooster fertilized the eggs. I think it was my white rooster that was I sold this past weekend. So, they are mix of some kind but look nothing like the Mama hen, yellow legs/feet. Pictures later, sleepy now.

Had FFA Forestry competition for middle DS. Went well for the most part. Glad it is over so we can focus on livestock now, which he is totally psyched about!

Second flag football game for youngest DS. He scored his first ever touchdown. It was endzone to endzone, and the winning score!

Oldest DS had band performance at the last Middle School home football game. He is getting so good at playing the trombone!

I have been up and going since 5am and it is now just about 11pm. So, my exhausted self is calling it a night...

Congrats on the chicks. Sounds like the kids kept you busy today!

I have two eggs I just candled. Both seem to be significantly behind the other eight. I can see they are alive and moving, but there is a great deal of light going through the egg. The other eggs were darker and the chicks take up more space inside the eggs. Seven days left to hatch. Does anyone know what that is?

Possible cold spots in incubator.
