HALLOWEEN Hatch-a-Long 2016 w/ Hosts, Mike, Sally & BantyChooks

I have two eggs I just candled. Both seem to be significantly behind the other eight. I can see they are alive and moving, but there is a great deal of light going through the egg. The other eggs were darker and the chicks take up more space inside the eggs. Seven days left to hatch. Does anyone know what that is?

Uneven temperatures in the incubator. They may take longer and still hatch.

No splayed legs. The yellow one is walking around. The black is still sitting on its bottom, flailing its legs and wings about. I tried to put it in a chick cup, but it was freaking out and I didn't want to stress it more.
It will stand soon. :) Sitting on it's butt, is better than standing with it's legs out..far apart! It will just get stronger. :)

7 chicks sold! Love it. Now I need to go hatch some more!
It's officially "Take advantage of the fact that the feed stores don't have chicks anymore" season.
You are right, I need to put mine up for sale now that they are doing well at eating and drinking. And, still little and cute. Just over a week old.

I usually wait till they are feathered in and can be sexed, but somebody needed them ASAP for a FFA project. The mamma hens aren't going to be happy, but that's 4 to 6 weeks of feed I don't have to buy for those chicks.
Also need to make room for the 14 healthy chicks growing in the incubator...

I haven't hatched enough to answer this, but I have the same thing happening with an egg on day 18. seemingly happy and bouncing, but filling less than half the egg. I'll let you know how this one fairs.

I agree...next time will most likely be easier. It helps to view every difficulty as a learning experience.
As babies we can't jump up and run around...we've got to crawl first before we can walk.
(Thank goodness! What a terrible thought...can you imagine running babies??

Please don't be discouraged.

Even the most experienced hatchers hit the occasional bump in the road.

Here's a link with a lot of great information for your perusal.
It's a good read. I like the way it explains everything clearly.

I had that problem. On day 24, it still wasn't ready, but the membrane stuck to the baby. It ended up not making it.
