HALLOWEEN Hatch-a-Long 2016 w/ Hosts, Mike, Sally & BantyChooks

Hi everyone. It was a long night and when I finally went to bed I didn't have much hope for Miracle but I had gotten some food in her again and I knew it was leaving her crop. Unfortunately this morning my little Miracle was gone. She fought hard and we gave it our all. She was a chick that I never expected to make it out of the egg and then day after day went by and I couldn't believe what a fighter she was. I think in the end the infection was spreading and was just too great for her to fight anymore. I could finally see some dark in her abdomen. Man for those first several days I was hopeful that she had dodged the bullet.
It sucks and for the moment her brother is alone. I have a friend who has also been hatching and hopefully she'll make it out with another chick or two so that he doesn't have to be alone.

While it sucks I'm glad Miracle didn't languish for days. She made it 5 days and her first four were incredible. She was seemingly healthy, active, and the sweetest chick I've ever met. It wasn't really until her last day and a half that I could tell she was declining. I'm glad she didn't suffer long had she still been alive we would have ended her suffering today. It was quite clear that she was failing last night at 2 am.

Goodbye Miracle I hope I never forget your sweetness.

Thank you all. it means the world having friends who understand that a tiny chick or not it still sucks and drags your day down. After last night I fully expected it to be today but I hoped and prayed that the food would help her. I wish I had snapped some pictures of her snuggled in my hand. Somehow I never had my phone within 20 feet when it happened. Thank you all for the support and hugs. It's always so hard getting attached and cheering them on and putting your all into it and losing them anyway. I find it's the part of this hobby that I really detest. I love my flock but losing the young ones is always difficult.

This all makes me wish that I had babies to hatch! Sadly my DIY incubator got destroyed in a dog/child related accident...

So this hatch is not going well..... I have one EE that piped a hole upside down, and isn't making much progress. PLUS 3 of the serama with bad air cells look like the membrane nearly fully detatched during draw down and I really don't think the chicks are going to have the ability to move into position.

If it makes you feel better, my first zipper needed help due to a vaulted skull with a huge fluff. (don't tell anyone, I'll get yelled out for opening my incubator during lock down, but she had been zipping for over 8 hours. All I did was pry the shell far enough apart, she could finish kicking it off.... she'd started to dry/fluff up inside her shell... so... i didn't want to lose her... )

I've got 3-5 more pips, one's zipping now... I'm trying to stay out of the room, but my gut instincts made me help that first chick when she couldn't finish her zip. She's glued to the shell now with one wing, which is why she was stuck. I'll have to help her later once everyone else is done hatching.

Here's my last silkie hatchling in with the cochins, I'll be removing him and placing him with the silkies once I take them out of the incubator. He doesn't seem very bonded to these guys, and I think I may throw them in with my ducks... since they will be full-sized cochins not bantams.

so... I think my internally piped eggs died. It has been around 36 hours since i noticed it. This is the 3rd hatch this has happened, I emailed Brinsea customer service to see if they have any ideas. I really hope they do I have tried everything I can think of.
