unfortunately the chick did not make it. It had both the fluid build up at the base of the wing and a red knob that developed on the second joint of the wing, and began walking on its knees with its feet up by its ears. I was going to cull, but thankfully it was taken out of my hands

And momma was off the nest today! All 9 hatched!! Yay! But as,I was pulling out egg shells to examine, I found a hidden egg that was in the corner burried in bedding. I thought 3 had gotten broke, but turns out it was only 2, one just got displaced. But I will take 9 chicks!

After she got off the nest, she started freaking out trying to get out of the enclosure, so After a few hours I gave in and we moved her out. She is much happier being free to move around... but I will be checking on them constantly until I am sure they will all be okay.

Here she is after we moved her. She quieted right down and then moved out of the box to a nice spot by the door.

Our 2 broody Brahmas ended up switching nests. Lol At least the eggs are all being incubated!

Sorry to hear of the quitters and the like for everyone who's had trying to hatch.

on all the babies hatched and hatching!!!! Very exciting!!!

I've had 3 chicken eggs that I can tell for certain that have quite and a few I suspect, but wasn't sure so I left 'em in.
The one egg for my royal purple guinea is the only one developing for certain and there's one I can't tell.
The rest of the guinea eggs were all clears. Which is "maybe" a good thing. Put a dent into their world domination plans.

One of the eggs is clear...lol. Todays day 13 so time will tell I guess.

I'm just dealing with a few issues in my previously hatched chicks.
The first presented with neurological issues and I was worried it was something contagious.
Of course this happened when I was combining and didn't have time to properly assess things.
But I thought I'd wait before jumping to conclusions. I started suspecting vitamin deficiencies.
Then I had a chick present with a drooping head. Both eating and drinking with full appetites.
AND then the one little chick started to show the beginning signs of a twisting beak.
I had a few chick deaths from coccidiosis just recently.
I had switched all my chicks onto medicated (Amprol) feed after going through a course of Amprol with everybody.

BUT I moved a clean set of chicks (on medicated feed) into the cleaned (but not disinfected etc.) brooder.
These are the chicks above that are starting to showing signs of vitamin deficiencies because the coccidia are causing enough damage that the chicks can't absorb nutrients/vitamins/minerals.
Vitamin B2, E and D3 specifically. I'm sure others as well.
I consulted the vet with my findings and they agreed.
So the feed with was not enough to stave off the coccidiosis.

And I'm realizing that my earlier chicks were showing slight signs of vitamin deficiencies but not enough to show clinical illness.
A good aha moment. The OEGB chick that had got chilled and I posted about? It's the one who's showing the beak issues.

So I came across some interesting info in my searching that explains some of the reasons of embryonic mortality at the various growth stages from deficiencies.

I also just came across an article last night that higher protein aids the growth of coccidiosis in comparison to a lower protein feed.
I'll have to research this further. It also has other interesting information.

We have a Vit deficiencies too in the notes section it is a bit easier to read if you want a look at it. @BantyChooks can you pull that chart of growth for DIS that I posted yesterday, well not chart but list since the it didnt stay in chart format. So this am around 6, this chicken pipped through the side. Seems not normal. No real progress in almost 7 hours. Leave it be or coach it out. I can see it still moving through the membrane.

1 adorable scary honas chick hatched out under mom yesterday, no other action. How long do I let her sit on the rest before I call them duds?

I would let them if they dont stink, me personally I would candle them if your not sure let them under and let her decide! Congrats!!!

Day 17. Noticed some rocking eggs, so I took out the turner and raised up the humidity a day early. 9 eggs look perfect. One may have died, but I'm not sure. And one has an abnormally positioned aircell, but the chick and veining looks fine.

well the chick I was worried about just self culled by drowning in the water dish, it wedged its head between marbles. ....and here I was researching the most humane ways of culling chicks. didn't figure it would be taken out of my hands so quickly.

So sorry sounds like it may have had a yolk sack infection

Updated picture of the assisted hatch duckling. Turns out she is now a happy little female, very active and sweet.
