Hand fed chickens

We started ours in the family room and we handled them a lot when they were babies. That helped them bond so closely with us.

I was wondering about hand feeding... I was worried that though it is cute as baby chicks, wouldn't it hurt as they grew to full sized chickens? We have some chicks that are 3 weeks old and my daughter was wanting to hand feed them, wasn't sure what to say...

No ill effects for the chickens or for us. Our chickens have gotten to where they expect a treat every time I come in the back yard now, and will let me know if I haven't given them their treat. Especially our rooster. He has hit me on the leg or foot a few times and glared at me as if to ask where his treat is.

My wife and I went on vacation for a few days and got back yesterday evening. This morning our Rhode Island red hen was a bit over excited and flew up at the door window when she heard me coming. She has gotten in the habit of jumping up to pull my hand down if I don't lower it fast enough for her liking, but I thought it was real funny to see her jump over 4' up to look in the window.

We have some young chickens (supposed to all be pullets, but one most assuredly isn't and we're wondering about a second one) and they come up wanting to join the others eating from my hand. The cockerel does eat from one hand while I'm feeding the older birds with my other hand.
