Hand sanitizer on eggs?

Yes, unfortunately antibacterial soap does kill the good bugs as well as the bad bugs.

...but even if the hand santizier destroyed the "bloom" and replaced it with a antibacterial coating that protected it by killing any bad bugs wanting to infect the egg during incubation, would this work?

Good points, Hathor! ...possible subtle effects on the chicks even if they hatch... or chicks hatching that perhaps should not have hatched.

thanks

If the hand sanitizer is made for killing tiny living bacteria then what is it going to do to a not so tiny but still tiny growing embryo

I mean feel your hands after you have put the stuff on they feel like they have a sort of oily coating on them, that wouldn't be good for the eggs.

...ok..

so much for my "wondering" this morning..

thanks everybody for your thoughts..... so many poultry knowledgeable people here!!! Love it!

Have a good day!

Eggs are porous, so it probably wouldn't be a good idea. Alcohol is a corrosive and causes cell death.

Yes, that was my concern about the alcohol....that some would cross through the porous shell and cause cell/tissue damage especially if left on as a "protective" coating.
