Is that on the small end?
Yeah it is. Is that gonna cause a problem? Is that on the small end?
It's malpositioned. May be able to get out itself but keep a close eye on it. If there's no progress make the hole a little biggerYeah it is. Is that gonna cause a problem?
I ended up with the ugliest Silkies ordering from a hatchery. I should have made Ken wait and then gotten some more hatching eggs from one of you instead. Oh, well. They're still cute in their own way, but nowhere near the quality I got from @RubyNala97 last year, even if I did end up with all roos. Glad you got your pen up! Don't worry - mine start out in the run in a pen and do fine! Had full integration by 5 weeks. (I was running a little behind with that because of Ken's surgery and my sister being so sick)
It's been like that for over 2 hours now and broke through anymore..?It's malpositioned. May be able to get out itself but keep a close eye on it. If there's no progress make the hole a little bigger
About half of them are completely detached and the others are just loose at the end. I don't want to be candling them everyday and let bacteria get in but at the same time I don't want the embryos to grow to the side of the egg. Today is Day 2, I was thinking maybe candling on Day 3 or 4.
My eggs are due to hatch tomorrow. It's my first ever time hatching eggs in a incubator. So wish me luck guys.
I've got one more lot of runner eggs in the incubator then I think I'm done for the year. That polish chick that hatched is so pretty (and lucky) little white fluff ballhoping it's not a male!
Yay!The first one has pipped
Pointed end malpo.
No! Never ever ever go into an egg after only a couple hours after pip. You can kill the chick. It takes anywhere from a few hours to 24 hours after the pip before you see progression in a egg pipped from the air cell. A malpo can take even longer because they are missing that period of rest and readying during the internal pip. After the external pip the egg to chick vascular system needs to shut down. This can take hours. To go in before this happens has the probability of rupturing veins and causing major bleed out. As long as there is no signs of distress, no excess fluids or bubbles coming from the pip, give it 24 hours. If the membrane starts turning dry, (leathery and tan/brown) apply a light coat of Vaseline or coconut oil to it. Make sure inner membrane isn't drying to the chick. If you start an assist only do as much as you can until you have veining in the membrane and stop. It's been like that for over 2 hours now and broke through anymore..?
