Hands on hatching and help

I've got broodies everywhere. Yesterday Gertrude's eggs started hatching. Today she has moved her babies into Pinky's nest and is sitting on Pinky's eggs. Pinky is just staring at her. I pulled Pinky's eggs from under Gertrude and found several with external pips. I moved them to where Pinky was just sitting and she started placing them under her. I tried to put a divider between the two girls but Pinky got up and went to a third (unclaimed) nest and started sitting on those eggs. This left Pinky's external pipped eggs sitting by themselves. So.... I moved them over to the unclaimed nest where Pinky was now sitting and then I RAN. What on earth should I do if Gertrude insists on taking over Pinky's eggs that are starting to hatch??

Update, no worries... Gertrude is now at the pond with 17 little ones. Pinky is back to her original nest with some babies and eggs. I candled and moved the remaining eggs closer to her and she is happy again:wee:wee:wee

I checked under my broody hen this morning, she had 2 eggs left and one hatched but the other is like this:

She's crushed two other eggs by accident in this clutch (and killed the babies) so I really don't want to give this one back, but I'm kind of at a loss. I made the hole so it could breathe and it's been breathing, moving a little, chirping occasionally. It looks shrink-wrapped to me, even down where the eggshell is the membrane has peeled away from the egg and looks dry. When I wet the membrane with a q-tip, it's clear pink with no large blood vessels. Today is Saturday, most of this clutch hatched Tuesday.

Suggestions? Should I help it out, or if not what should I do to enable it to hatch?
Sorry you didn't get an answer, do you still need help?

I would moisten that membrane around the pip with some Vaseline/neosporin or coconut oil. It's looking pretty dry.

I am doing everything by the book, keeping water in the incubator, all the basics. Candled at 7 days, had 15 out of 20 eggs that were fertile and active. Threw out the duds. I am the only person working with the eggs, its just my husband and I so there aren't any kids messing with anything!! I am using the Little Giant incubator with the automatic egg turner. I cleaned it with bleach and dried it out before I set the eggs to start incubating. PLEASE tell me something to try.....not one egg hatched!!! Don't be afraid to ask the obvious, I an desperate to figure out what I am doing wrong.

Thanks to anyone that can help!

First do you have your own checked/accurate thermometer/hygrometer in the incubator? Is it still air or forced air? What were the temps and humidity the first 17 days?

Welcome to the thread!
