Hands on hatching and help

Nearly all fluffed up as it's the only one to survive I'll put it in with my chicks. I prefer doing it as they teach them where the water and food is. I'm definitely keeping

Quick question. I gave the duckling some electrolytes this morning and everytime it took a sip bubbles were coming out of it's bill. Should I be worried?

Bubbles? I'm guessing what you are seeing is how they flush the water through their nares (the nostril holes on top). They must always have water that they can totally submerge their bills into, so they can keep them flushed and clear. That's why ducks don't do well with nipple waterers like chickens use. And that's why they make such a huge mess with the water! They flush through a lot more than they actually drink! haha

Ever drank a warm soda and it comes out your nose? :D Its all connected in there... lol

Well I have four hatched. Two quit and I wasn't home to help them and they didn't make it. The temp went up to about 103 degrees with the three live chicks in the incubator, and I did not realize it!! :thSo Now I'm not sure that the others are going to make it. No internal or external pips. We'll see on the later set eggs to see if they start to pip on Sunday.

Haha yeah that's true! It makes a clicking sound though when it breathes do you think it has goo in its throat or something? It's fine otherwise just lazy lol. It walks about and then sleeps on the spot!

Hello,

I started an assisted hatch yesterday at about 5 pm- that was day 25. We just opened up the shell at the air cell wide enough to see that he was just a bit behind and seemed to be doing well. It is now 12:30 on day 26 and he's very active- the problem is is that he is trying to break out but there are still a few veins, which has caused a few little blood pools to form.

If I hadn't assisted I would assume that he knew what he was doing, but I'm worried I confused him and he is breaking out too early. It's my first hatch (as you can probably tell) so I'm not sure what to do... does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

Hi. I've been incubating duck eggs. They started pipping yesterday. When I got up around 6:00am this morning I saw that two ducklings had made a good size hole in the egg and had their bills poking out. Around the holes the membrane has become brown and dry looking. But only right around the holes. I can see some membrane that is white as well. I've been watching them all day and they haven't made any progress. Is this normal? Is there something I can do? Should I just give them more time?

Give them lots more time... ducklings take MUCH longer than chicks do to hatch, usually...
