Hands on hatching and help

Would it be safe yet? I'm almost positive I'll have to get him outof there or at least clear some membrane around top. When should I do that?

Lube the membrane with some Vaseline to soften it up. Those veins are really minimal, so I wouldn't worry about them now. Take your q-tip, and slip it under the membrane, next to his bill, and slowly, gently stretch it outward from the bill. I suspect he will start helping you by wiggling around. Once you get the membrane opened up and his head free, you should be able to shine your flashlight down his chest and see if there is any yolk. If he has any unabsorbed, leave him in the shell. If the belly looks good, just lay it back in the incubator and he will push out. Might even push out in your hand before you get to that point!

Yes, yolk would be right at the belly, near where the tail meets the body. You would know if any were unabsorbed!

Congrats!! She's darling! Great job! :celebrate

What all did you have to do?

You need them to complete your collection lol. Then you would have the silkie chickens, ducks and the beautiful sebbie geese lol
Yes! Lol

Hello BYC!! I'm so excited. My husband and adult children decided to surprise me for Mother's Day and build me a coop in my garden area of our property!! The coop is nearly done and is looking mighty fine. A few days after Mom's Day, I got on eBay and read a bunch of reviews and picked out the very best egg sources and ordered, 6 Barred Plymouth Rocks, 6 Silver Laced Wyandottes, and 12 Buff Orpingtons. The PR and the SL came first, and I placed them in the incubator in the egg turner. The Buffs came 4 days later, so I added them. today was day 19 for the first eggs set, so I had to take the turner out, and place all the eggs on the grate. Tonight when we got home from dinner, I heard my first Peep coming from the incubator. I'm so stinking excited that I may have chicks soon. However the buffs are only on day 14 and I still need to turn them, I think? Is it going to mess with my hatching eggs to open the incubator slightly to turn the others? is it late enough not to turn the buffs anymore? I've candled and have good eggs growing, only 2 or 3 questionable ones, so I don't want to screw this up now!! Day #6, had a rotten egg, found it and got it out without explosion...:ya
Sorry this is a novel, but I'm just so excited!!
