Hands on hatching and help

I have east Indies but not silkied! Where do you find that!
Think hes almost ready! If the yolk isnt fully absorbed and he comes out i just try to keep him calm and still in bottom of egg in a cup right? Or at least still till its gone. It'll probably be 3 am when no ones awake to answer questions lol.
I love the east Indies. They are so pretty! You need a few silkies now lol.

i want silkie ducks too!!

I ordered mine of eBay. Only place I've found them. I'm sure there are other places to though lol. I was sketchy on if they were the real deal but sure enough I hatched out two!

and yes, a cup works well if there is any unabsorbed yolk, or just on something soft, like a dry towel. Tag @Ravynscroft, the night-owl, if it's 3 a.m. :D

good luck, I'm off to bed now.

Hi. I am trying to hatch some duck eggs and don't think that I am succeeding. It's day 30 and I have not yet seen an external pip from any of the eggs. I know that at least one has internally pipped, but that was over 24 hours ago. I haven't seen any movement or heard any noise from that egg since yesterday evening. Should I open the incubator and candle the eggs? If they are alive and have internally pipped, should I put a safety hole in the air cell?
After 24 hours of an internal pip I would make a very small safety hole.

Hello BYC!! I'm so excited. My husband and adult children decided to surprise me for Mother's Day and build me a coop in my garden area of our property!! The coop is nearly done and is looking mighty fine. A few days after Mom's Day, I got on eBay and read a bunch of reviews and picked out the very best egg sources and ordered, 6 Barred Plymouth Rocks, 6 Silver Laced Wyandottes, and 12 Buff Orpingtons. The PR and the SL came first, and I placed them in the incubator in the egg turner. The Buffs came 4 days later, so I added them. today was day 19 for the first eggs set, so I had to take the turner out, and place all the eggs on the grate. Tonight when we got home from dinner, I heard my first Peep coming from the incubator. I'm so stinking excited that I may have chicks soon. However the buffs are only on day 14 and I still need to turn them, I think? Is it going to mess with my hatching eggs to open the incubator slightly to turn the others? is it late enough not to turn the buffs anymore? I've candled and have good eggs growing, only 2 or 3 questionable ones, so I don't want to screw this up now!! Day #6, had a rotten egg, found it and got it out without explosion...:ya
Sorry this is a novel, but I'm just so excited!!
Sounds like you have a staggered hatch. Those can be tricky. I think the biggest problem isn't not turning right now but more raising humidity for hatch can drowned the others. I always keep a second incubator hooked up for hatching. Hopefully someone with more experience doing staggered hatches can help. For now I would keep turning until you see an external pip in the hatchers.

Thank you! I decided to very quickly candle all the eggs and put the tiniest hole in the air cell if they had internally pipped. I knew one of them had been internally pipped for over 24 hours. I wasn't sure about the others, so I just decided to put safety holes in them too. I hope that is okay. Of the 8 eggs, 4 were definitely internally pipped and moving. There were 3 that i wasn't sure about. I decided not to put safety holes in those ones yet. 2 of the 3 were definitely alive but i didn't know if they had internally pipped. 1 of them might be dead. Then there is 1 egg I am pretty sure is dead. It was turning blue and when I candled it I didn't see movement or veins. Definitely no internal pip either. I decided to remove it from the incubator. Sorry if none of this makes any sense.

They should be ok not turning by day 14... also wouldn't worry about a couple days of higher humidity, it takes more than that to really affect them... good luck on your hatch! :fl

It hatched yesterday. I know ducklings take longer but it's not even on its feet it's just led on its side

Should still only take a day or so to get its feet under it... got any Nutridrench Poultry vitamins? A couple drops in the bill might help... just touch a drop at a time on the tongue and let it swallow, don't force it... follow it with a couple drops of plain water to wash it down...

I have poultry vitamin powder? It's still giving the occasional peep. Hasn't fluffed up either the feathers are rock hard especially round the head.
