Hands on hatching and help

Silkie ducks? I want to see!
I don't have many good pics yet. So far only the wings have feathered in. They are super cute though lol

I'm not sure. It was under two moms. They hatched two. Killed two by stepping on and breaking them and then left the nest so I brought them inside. When I got to them it had a hole made in air sac and what looked like another one further down the side but it was probably from the girls I think. I thought I had to worry about the membrane under the shell turning white so i broke out the air hole more. Now I realize I go by the membrane actually around the duckling. Next time I'll leave it alone... he is yawning a lot now and the veins are getting fainter. Going to stay up and help when its time. Any other signs hes ready or that hes over ready and in trouble? Thanks for the help everyone. Every time I think I'm done another bird goes broody!

I have east Indies but not silkied! Where do you find that!
Think hes almost ready! If the yolk isnt fully absorbed and he comes out i just try to keep him calm and still in bottom of egg in a cup right? Or at least still till its gone. It'll probably be 3 am when no ones awake to answer questions lol.

i want silkie ducks too!!

and yes, a cup works well if there is any unabsorbed yolk, or just on something soft, like a dry towel. Tag @Ravynscroft, the night-owl, if it's 3 a.m. :D

good luck, I'm off to bed now.

Hi. I am trying to hatch some duck eggs and don't think that I am succeeding. It's day 30 and I have not yet seen an external pip from any of the eggs. I know that at least one has internally pipped, but that was over 24 hours ago. I haven't seen any movement or heard any noise from that egg since yesterday evening. Should I open the incubator and candle the eggs? If they are alive and have internally pipped, should I put a safety hole in the air cell?

Hello BYC!! I'm so excited. My husband and adult children decided to surprise me for Mother's Day and build me a coop in my garden area of our property!! The coop is nearly done and is looking mighty fine. A few days after Mom's Day, I got on eBay and read a bunch of reviews and picked out the very best egg sources and ordered, 6 Barred Plymouth Rocks, 6 Silver Laced Wyandottes, and 12 Buff Orpingtons. The PR and the SL came first, and I placed them in the incubator in the egg turner. The Buffs came 4 days later, so I added them. today was day 19 for the first eggs set, so I had to take the turner out, and place all the eggs on the grate. Tonight when we got home from dinner, I heard my first Peep coming from the incubator. I'm so stinking excited that I may have chicks soon. However the buffs are only on day 14 and I still need to turn them, I think? Is it going to mess with my hatching eggs to open the incubator slightly to turn the others? is it late enough not to turn the buffs anymore? I've candled and have good eggs growing, only 2 or 3 questionable ones, so I don't want to screw this up now!! Day #6, had a rotten egg, found it and got it out without explosion...:ya
Sorry this is a novel, but I'm just so excited!!

Trish
