Hands on hatching and help

Well the malpositioned keet didn't make it :( Not sure what happened with it, it could breathe and everything, but they can be fragile babies.

But in better news I have two out and two more pips working on it, so things are going better than I thought they were going to, at least.

the first one looks closer than he second one. If you remove the shell from the end of the egg instead of the side (i mean the fat end where the air cell was, instead of along the long axis) they have better ability to push out on their own when they are ready. Still lay the egg on its side, with just bare minimum shell along the floor.

you can also spread the membrane apart, as much as possible without ripping a blood vessel.

4 days is quite extreme.
I know it got stuck and I only realised when I got home earlier so helped it out. It's pretty weak but not surprised! Took a while to absorb the yolk though

i think when i went home that evening, the egg that i thought was an OEGB egg was actually a cochin and had hatched. So i gave her the early lav orp chick that night. I kept the 2 later lav orp eggs in the incubator, they hatched 4-5 days later.
i still have those 2 inside because i think it's been too long to give them to her, although they are as big as the one she hatched!

Sorry about the malpo... congrats on the others.

bummer on the malpo. If you couldn't save it, nobody could. Glad the others are doing better.

They both didnt make it. I know a little more now anyway. Thanks for your help. I have an actual incubator on the way now. Hoping that helps next time.
