Hands on hatching and help

Thanks. I followed your suggestion. It didn't kick out, but the membrane was dry even under the shell, so I continued...eventually it sort of fell out of the remaining shell. The yolk is fully absorbed, thankfully. Now it's lurching around a little like they do, and mostly dried already. Whoohoo! Four down, up to thirteen to go. Hopefully nobody else needs interference.

:clap continued good luck! :fl

I've got another guinea hatch going on but I think it's not gonna be a good one. Two eggs have externally pipped and the rest have done nothing. I'm thinking there were a lot of late quitters.

Got a third pip now but one of the first ones was a malpo. I managed to find the beak and clear the membrane over it so it can breathe. Hopefully it can finish up on its own.

Finally...the long-winded question, if anyone is still reading this blabber...Should i give the late 2 eggs to the OEGB hen?? They are pretty large for her, but now she seems so committed, and has been sitting for 3 weeks, i feel bad for her.
Did you end up giving her the eggs?

i think when i went home that evening, the egg that i thought was an OEGB egg was actually a cochin and had hatched. So i gave her the early lav orp chick that night. I kept the 2 later lav orp eggs in the incubator, they hatched 4-5 days later.
i still have those 2 inside because i think it's been too long to give them to her, although they are as big as the one she hatched!

Im freaking out a bit today. I oiled them up before I left at 930 but no one will be home till 3. My 13 year old daughter knows what to do but I'm worried they wont make it. Not sure how long they can last if shrink wrapped. Top one was yawning when I left.

the first one looks closer than he second one. If you remove the shell from the end of the egg instead of the side (i mean the fat end where the air cell was, instead of along the long axis) they have better ability to push out on their own when they are ready. Still lay the egg on its side, with just bare minimum shell along the floor.

you can also spread the membrane apart, as much as possible without ripping a blood vessel.

They'll have a while left yet mine has just come out the shell after 4 days of hatching.

4 days is quite extreme.
