Hands on hatching and help

These are shipped?? I am curious, who is the breeder? Feel free to PM me that if you'd rather... I am asking cuz I have a friend who breeds those and in the same colors...

Another thing... with anyone setting shipped eggs... monitoring air cell growth becomes very, very difficult due to air cell damage... saddled air cells *can look* huge when really they are on track or too small... it can be very difficult to determine the ones that actually are too large... just a note...

Yea, they are shipped. They came from a lady named Nancy at Nanthalafarms.com. If I can get some of these to hatch I'd love to get some eggs from your friend too to diversify my flock.

I did not know the air cells were tough to guage. That may be my problem with the bacteria cos I thought the air sacs were too big so I bumped up my humidity and with a screwy hygrometer I got it way too high and encouraged the growth. Good to know for the future though.

Here is the latest on my very late duckling. @RavynFallen @RubyNala97 @AmyLynn2374 . And all those who give the much needed help. What would we do without you all.
This morning the veins were tiny and I was able to free it's head. But it is very sticky.

This afternoon it could not open its eyes. The goo was drying and turning to glue. So I gave it a warm bath. (Its bottom is still in the shell)
Dried with warn air and put it back in bator. I did remove a couple sponges. Well it looks better and I feel a lot better. It can at least open its eyes.
Will check back in tomorrow. Hopefully it will be out by then
Linda
Yay!

Should I mist my duck eggs in the hatcher??? I have been spraying mist into the air vents to keep my humidity up but I have been trying to avoid the shells.

I pulled 5 more Barnie eggs that were clear. Had marked them but left them in on Friday since I couldn't see into them very well, but yup, they were clear when opened. Today is day 11.

Of the 19 left, 5 still have loose air cells and 2 have air cells completely on the side. (Weird!) Hoping 12 make it to lockdown, and assuming half die then, we're still on track for 6 to hatch.

Just did a thorough candling. 3 internal pips. Boosted humidity (I think 2 are using jackhammers!) and removed only vent plug. (Lost the other one last year!)

lol!
I threw away my vent plugs over a year ago... :D

Awesome!
Yes, they get sticky because they are taking so long and there is a lot of membrane exposed. Good job on the bath. Make sure when it's out of the shell that you wash the vent because it can get sealed shut from the sticky stuff and then they can't go to the bathroom.
I'm not misting yet. Should I start? Once a day, warm bottled water? I will get better pics tonight when it's dark. I took those today.
Me neither! I was determined to find one! Lol.

Want to see what the points (bottoms) look like first... then probably yes...

Nah, misting duck eggs is onky done up to 'lockdown' time... now they need to concentrate on getting O2 from through the shells...

I hatched some bantams from Nancy last year. My first shipped eggs. Only hatched 4 out of the 12. All Roos. But good learning experience. She had them on her site for a couple weeks.

Vent plugs? Maybe that has something to do with your issues. My vents are always wide open.

Lost Ravyn's quote that she tosses hers too. Maybe Maine makes a difference but I'd suggest trying a batch without them at all!

Going to bed with 5 internal pips....they're peeping and tapping and eggs are rocking all over!! 3am comes early. I'll see what's going on then.

She has some good looking ducks. I will have to look into her eggs when I find out what hatches. We actually have 10 other ducklings coming on Thursday. We are trying to get a variety of ducks that can breed a bunch of unique and different looking ducklings next year. Come next years breeding season (barring any catastrophes) multiple anconas, blue, chocolate, fawn n white and black runners, blue swedish, magpies, khaki campbells, buff orpingtons, cayugas and Welsh harlequins and all with the potential of being crested (as the ones coming in thursday are randomly crested). Oughta give us quite a diverse group of chicks next year. The fun part will be hatching the lil guys because every egg will be a surprise!

There isn't any kind of problems I would need to worry about by mixing all these breeds is there???
