Hands on hatching and help

Yea, she has a hatch due on May 8th and were waiting to see how many ducklings she gets.  If enough hatch, I'm gonna have her send me 20!

So I looked up wry neck and thought that must be what my problem is since it flops it's head around and cannot properly hold it up.  But then I looked up star gazing and I am almost 100% certain that is what it is after seeing videos of chicks with this problem.  Apparently it could be due to neurological problems, genetics, thiamine deficiencies and even being malpositioned in the egg (which I am hoping is the case since it just hatched).  Some people recommend culling star gazing chicks but I can't do that.  So at the very least, I should probably keep this duck from breeding in the future.

That's great!! You'll get some beautiful babies!!

Wry neck and star gazing are the same thing, lol... if the vites clear it up, no need to worry... :)

Amylynn no offense taken trust me. I don't know anything about hatching our own eggs except for what we read about. Didn't read anything about this stuff. Yes 3 of them looked like the first pics you posted and 2 like the last one that had too much moisture. Ruby sorry i didn't get any pics it was late when i opened them up and just didn't think about it. Amylynn2374 posted some pics that look like what mine did after opening them up
Do you check your air cells at all during the incubation? That's one thing that will help you learn how to adjust your hudmidity for the eggs. Some eggs are more porous than others and will loose moisture faster. It may come down to having to do certain types of eggs by themselves. For example I may the mistake of sticking 4 of my big green eggs in with some silkie eggs I got from ruby. The eggs ruby sent me were small and needed a higher humidity than I am used to running so putting my big green eggs in jeapoardized them because they needed a dry incubation to loose enough moisture. What works for some eggs won't neccessarily works for all. So if some are hatching well while other's are loosing too much or not enough, it may just be a matter of not setting certain ones toagether. If the majority are having problems then I'd look at adjusting for the whole batch.

BYC, go drunk, you're home... :/

thank you Amy that helps a lot and explains some things that happened as to why some had too much moisture and why the others dried out. We candled a few times just to see if there was movement. Wasn't aware of the air sack stuff. The two that lost too much were the ones we ordered. Out of 6 of those that made it to lock down 4 hatched out. The other ones were our barnyard mix and were bigger. Only 2 of those hatched out of 6 that went to lock down. After reading your reply the humidity probably played a big role in that

I tryed to candle eggs from my phone flash light today. We called all chicken eggs one exploded. Duck eggs look like there's nothing moving. They have 4 more days from when I took them based on. Before the ones outside hatch a new hatch on first.but it doesn't look promising we got none. Oh well maybe 1st will be a better litter.

Well today is day 26 for my ducky eggs. One that had internally pipped yesterday, I woke up this morning and it looked discolored on the outside so I candled it. There was discoloration and no movement. Opened it up slowly and the poor thing was shrink wrapped

I immediately wet two sponges and put them in the incubator. Left for the day and came back and there was condensation on the window. I took out one of the wet rags I had in there. The whole time my humidity was fluctuating. So clearly that is not reliable.
Is there anything you all would recommend to make sure I don't shrinkwrap the others or drown them?
Gosh you can really tell I'm a rookie at this

I feel so terrible and don't want to lose anymore, be easy on me.
Also should they all be internally pipped by now?

It's sooo sad I can't hardly stand to watch it.
Poor baby... yeah, that's it... load it up with straight vites, then a bit of water to wash it down... it's harder to get duckling to take drops than chicks, so might need to pry its bill open and drop it on its tongue... don't go to the back of the throat, if it goes down the middle hole it could choke, so let it swallow it...
Well if that's the case, then hopefully we can get the lil guy fixed up!
:thumbsup Good luck!!

What kind of eggs? And what is the humidity reading at?
