Hands on hatching and help

The post office mishandles them. The postal person handed me the box telted on its side and not straight up and down. Shaken baby syndrome . Before we even got them. 3 born 3 not 3 days later they all died.

Update on the hatch. We had 6 out of 12 hatch out. The ones that were rocking and wiggling didn't make it. The 3 others just didn't fully develop. I opened them up to see what went wrong. The ones that were moving looked like the membrane vacuumed sealed around them causing them to suffocate. What could cause this? Thank you to all who helped me with my previous post. Congrats to all who have some hatching soon and good luck

So today is day 19 for my silkies. Nothing happening yet. Lockdown late last night because I had a horrendous time at jury duty I had to have some shine to calm my nerves. Lol!!!

Hope you have a great hatch. And I hope you held off on the shine until after lockdown!

Lol, that's not a horrible deal.

Not bad, I agree. I texted the seller. If I can spare the money, I might go for it. Still undecided. Or I might ask if they will take a little less $$ and see if that makes it easier for me to justify.

At what day did you open the ones that looked vacuum sealed? In my opinion, there are many reasons that cause an unhatched one to look shrinkwrapped. If the air cells don't get big enough, then the chick gets too big, and doesn't have enough room to maneuver inside the egg, causing it to use up all the fluid and get trapped. On the other hand, if the air cell grows too much, then the chick also gets trapped if it isn't strong enough to break into the air cell. So humidity must be in an acceptable range for the air cell to grow properly, and temperatures must be in the right range also, so that the chick grows at the proper rate.

So... I told myself I wasn't going to set any more eggs for a while.... but I lied to myself. I have 7 to lockdown in a couple of days, and then I was going to be done.

Well, instead, I now have 5 (yes, just 5!) of my cuckoo bantam cochin's eggs in there. I have been dying to hatch some of hers, since I determined which egg was hers, and last night, they jumped into the bator and I just had to let them stay.

(see, my thinking is, if these sell well, then I might be able to justify that new incubator! LOL)

I tried express shipping once for $50 (in my second attempt to get eggs from Florida to NY from the same breeder) and they arrived worse then the first attempt that took 5 days!
Now that's just plain sad!

Do they look like this:

OR:

These are shrinked wrapped. I think many people see how enveloped the membrane is naturally around the chick and think they are seeing shrink wrapped when they are actually seeing the natural state of the membrane around the chick. If there is shrinkwrapping, I think the biggest cause is too low humidity during hatch causing the air cell to become to big and the membrane drying out compressing the chick. I also have seen it happen at lockdown, which it did with the bottom two when the draw down happens and it's too much draw down. Up to lockdown those looked good and then they drew down.

This is the opposite, a egg that did not loose enough moisture:

But to someone who has never seen a truely shrink wrapped chick, one might think that the membrane appears to be restricting the chick, and it's not.

I don't mean any offense and I am totally not implying that you don't know what you are seeing, I just think that many times DIS chicks are labeled "shrink wrapped" when in fact they are not and it just sells that "shrink wrapping fear" promoted by hands off hatchers.

Good luck! I am setting a dozen of my green eggs either tonight or tomorrow to hatch for my sister. Depends whether the girls give me the last two today or not...lol

I had a Muscovy pip last night and the mother decided he no longer needed his shell now it is here with its yolk still on the outside about a penny size yolk sack what can I do to help my little one make it this my very first chick to hatch and I am really heartbroken and will just be devastated if there's no help for this little baby Muscovy someone anyone what can I do?

So I have to make this short and sweet as I am sick as a dog. Of the ten eggs in the bator, 3 have hatched and 2 of the other pippers are making progress. The 6th pip has no movement but I can clearly see blood stains inside the egg when candling, as well as in 2 of the other eggs that have not pipped. Any ideas? Maybe just struggling too hard to get out?

They are all officially late as we are now 28 days and 17 hours. Not sure if we'll get more than 5 but I'm surprised that many hatched.

One of the lil chocolate babies has a problem with it's neck. It appears to not be able to bend it's head down and just looks straight up wiggling its' head back and forth from side to side. I can bend it down gently and he will hold it somewhat right for a couple minutes but then when I check on him again he is doing the neck thing again or flopped on his back wriggling his neck from side to side. Anyone know what this could be or what I can do to fix it?
