Hands on hatching and help

Oh no! I'm sorry about your sebright

Glad to hear the wrong end chick and is hanging in there. Hopefully since you were able to add the Vaseline to the membrane and got the humidity higher it may be able to avoid getting too stuck. I had one like that my last hatch- wrong end pip I ended up assisting and it was sticky around the face and head but everything else was ok.

My shipped mottled cochins and Marans are on day 12 today. A couple of the shipped Marans eggs have the worst saddled cells I've ever seen. They extend almost down to close to the bottom of the small end. I'll have to get a pic of them up here later. I'll be shocked if they hatch without issues.

So many horror stories about shipped eggs, I swore I'd never do it, but I guess I will try shipped seramas this week! Day 12, over the half way hump! Lol! :fl

I got home and my wrong end one is still in the shell, I worked a little more with him, so we'll see. I also heard strong peeping from the safety hole, and actually saw the beak barely thru the hole, so I'm not giving up on that one yet. So far, the 2 LOs that hatched are like David and goliath! The one that did everything on its own is huge in comparison! Lol I'll get some pics later.

He suddenly decided he wanted out! I helped him. Somehow he couldn't seem to twist in the shell despite good humidity. But no bleeding at all and he kicked hard to free himself. He's bopping about the incubator crashing into the other eggs now but seems ok!

That sucks! Sorry to hear you are having trouble. I hope it gets better! :hugs

It is. From a very established line. It takes a lot of work and time to get them to look that good. I've seen some pretty ugly SGs, but when you get them to this point, I think they are just beautiful.

I've been wanting SGs for a long time, but everyone around here thinks they are ugly and I haven't wanted to pay the big bucks for shipped eggs and have them flop, so it's still on my "dream chicken" list....lol The end of last year I had one silkie/nn cross hatch, but my silkies that I've had the last year are just pet quality and no roo. I just hatched out last week 12 silkies from Ruby's girls and these will be excellent quality so I am hoping that I can cross my gen 1 sg back to a roo and finally start my line.

Since he didn't make the pip himself, it may take him a little longer to progress, but I would keep a close eye on him.  I will say that even though I personally have never done marans, from what I've noted watching others, the majority seem to do better at lower humidity during incubation.  When you add in the shipping factor, it becomes more dicey.
if that beautiful silkie is the end result I'm up for the challenge! We have a blue splash roo who is 1 1/2 and then we have white silkie babies who are 5 weeks so far we can tell we have 3 hens and 6 roos out of them! Lol none n/n so that is going to be a dream chicken for me too!!!

Made his way the rest of the way out. You can see my pin-hole safety hole in the other egg too. Wrong-ender does have a small eraser sized belly spot, but I think he might just be ok! :fl

I'm incubating my first hatch. I candled at day 13 and had no clue what i was doing so i was too nervous to throw any out. A friend gave me their incubator and it was fluctuating in temp throughout this whole process so I'm afraid that my eggs aren't going to make it. It is now day 23 and I added more water to bring up the humidity and haven't touched it in several days. I haven't noticed any movement or anything with my eggs and I haven't had any smell during this whole process. How much longer should i wait for my eggs and should they have started smelling by now if the was a bad one?

No. They don't generally smell, especially if they are late quitters. I would candle them and look for signs of life. Any movement at all, veining around the air cell where the light may still penetrate.
