Hands on hatching and help

Omg I'm so excited but scared too. They are pipped early. Hatch day was supposed to be July 8. So far I only see 4 pipped. What do I do now? How long does it usually take once they have internally pipped to external?

Oh, get ready to be very, very patient, lol... ducks take their sweet time, trust me... could be 24-48 hrs until external pip, then another 24-48 hrs until zip...

That's been my experience as well.

That's a good thing then right. Probably hatch way closer to their hatch day date lol. Is it ok to take the lid off now to add water? What should I keep the humidity at?

Things to watch for:

Bruises on the shells... when my Muscovy ducklings try to pip in the wrong spot a bruise shows up, so if you see a bruise, I'd be willing to bet that's where the bill is. Here is a picture of what I mean:

This is a Muscovy that tried to pip at the wrong end.

This is the whole I made for it.

Here's another:
The brown spot is where it pipped internally, the hole is one I made. Note that the air cell is on the other side of the egg!

This is after I made the hole larger

Hole/pip vs air cell

Will there be a bruise if it's pipped in the right place?

Yes, it's fine to take lid off now... I shoot for 65% humidity and no higher than 75% or they get 'juicy' as Kathy mentioned...

They could... just pay particular attention for bruises on the wrong ends if you don't see the internal pip in the air cell...

Sometimes there is. If you see a bruise, candle, and when you add water, check the eggs for bruises.
