Hands on hatching and help

Things to watch for:

Bruises on the shells... when my Muscovy ducklings try to pip in the wrong spot a bruise shows up, so if you see a bruise, I'd be willing to bet that's where the bill is. Here is a picture of what I mean:

This is a Muscovy that tried to pip at the wrong end.

This is the whole I made for it.

Here's another:
The brown spot is where it pipped internally, the hole is one I made. Note that the air cell is on the other side of the egg!

This is after I made the hole larger

That is very interesting.

Sometimes there is. If you see a bruise, candle, and when you add water, check the eggs for bruises.

Yes, it's fine to take lid off now... I shoot for 65% humidity and no higher than 75% or they get 'juicy' as Kathy mentioned...
They could... just pay particular attention for bruises on the wrong ends if you don't see the internal pip in the air cell...
Great advice and awesome pics, Kathy! :)

I went ahead and checked now because it was actually time to add water. It's so hard to keep the humidity up in the brinsea. I saw some bruising in the air cells when I candled. I didn't see any bruising on the outside of the eggs. I'll keep watch though. :)

Have you tried draping a folded paper towel across the water wells? I think a couple people with Brinseas do that to help keep humidity up...

Yes I have paper towels in both wells right now and some sponges. It's at 67 percent.

I think it's cuz of the type of shell and their bill... never see chicks do that either, they either break through or not...

It's to bad. It would be so much easier if all hatching eggs did. Do ducks get an egg tooth as well?
