Hands on hatching and help

Wow!  I have never seen them bust holes like that!

We added the towel at day 18 for lock down. We noticed that helps hold the heat in and we wetted it as needed for humidity.
The second one is almost done unzipping

Did you have the towel under the eggs the whole time?  I'm wondering if that may hamper air circulation around the eggs.

The black one moved fast. I'm really impressed this time around.

They are resting with each other now.

Whatever works for you, go with it. But I'd be careful with a wet towel under them. It can cause a chill.

Congrats on the cuties!

I'd be worried about the size of the holes of the chicken wire.

I had one that pipped the very tip of the egg, and within 6 hours busted out the vey top instead of zipping. It was way too early. It wasn't ready. Still had prominent veining and an unabsorbed yolk that ruptured probably on its way out. Would love to know what made him hatch before he was ready. Of course he didn't make it. That was in my second successful hatch. But that's the only one I've ever had bust through a hole instead of zipping.

this is my Trader Joe chick. This is as far as it has zipped since 12AM. It is chirping and rocking but is it normal to only progress this far? At any point do you have to make the hole bigger?

It can take 24 hours from the initial external pip to actually zip and hatch. I usually check on them around 18 hours if they haven't progressed and make sure the membranes look good and positioning looks good (as you can tell) then I leave them alone until about 24 hours, then I start an assisted hatch. Many times even then I can only start but have to put them back because they still have too much veining. But I don't let them go more than 24 hours without starting. Many finish on their own, some I will assist all the way out if veining is gone.

Thank you. I am playing videos of chicks chirping and it pokes its beak out and chirps. It is rocking the egg so will wait patiently (LOL).
