Hands on hatching and help

WV knows Brinseas and did Calls in one, she would should have tips for you there...

How typey are the parent stock? More typey they are, the harder to hatch...

I'm not sure. They looked good from an untrained eye. The breeder didn't say in the details section. The pic above was the pic posted. They do have the shorter bills. But none of the pics showed clearly their size. They do seem to fit the type though. I could ask the breeder.. I'm just trying to be prepared. With my luck none will develop from awful shipping but I can never find anything local. We have such good luck with our waterfowl. They seem to thrive here. Hoping to have a few more for pets.. Hoping I didn't get myself into a sticky situation. Ill message wv about it as well.

Ah, nevermind, I see... check the air cells when you get them, go from there...

Ok thanks..

Is it normal for the duckling to be so quiet? Is that what they do when they're absorbing? Not one peep when I put the coconut oil on

still breathing and opening its mouth though

Yawning motions without peeping means it is working on absorbing yolk... very normal, but it is always a relief to hear the peep finally...

It peeped a couple times earlier which made my heart melt but it's just been constantly opening its mouth so I guess it's really working on that yolk? It's kind of relaxing watching it I find hours go by without even realising

Yep, that's exactly what it's doing... great signs, and glad watching it helps pass the time for you... :)

Oh good well I'm going to make a little bed next to the inc and make sure it's moist until that yolk is absorbed. Do you know how long it takes for it to absorb?

Depends on how much is there... a day or so... maybe 2 if it's a lot... it will let you know when it's ready, it will start struggling like crazy to get out...
