Hands on hatching and help

Um, hi.
frow.gif
I'm Blooie. I don't know if I'll be a "hands on hatcher" or not. I have my shipped eggs sitting here and so far I'm afraid touch them. I already broke one just looking at it.

The eggs are letting their air cells settle right now while hubby is trying to regulate the incubator and I'm scrounging in the cabinet for margarita makings. It's gonna be a looong month. <sigh>

Welcome friend!!! I am going to be doing my first shipped eggs here in about another week and I am going to try to be as hands off with them as I can, so I am collecting eggs from my spitzhauben hen to set with them so I have something I can touch!!

Realizing this is "hands on" thread, I'm excited to have a hands OFF hatch... My pigeon is sitting on an egg!!! She laid it last night. Should be 17 days from now!!!

This was so fun, I just set more last night. :) Fingers crossed that it turns out just as good!!! 2 serama, 2 chocolate bantam orpington, and 5 CCL eggs :)

Oh I want some bantam choc orps! I actually have a supplier for them, I just can't handle another breed. But you might just change my mind for me!!

Piggie!! I hope she hatches it for you.

What size are pigeon eggs? Like comparable to a quail?

Hello,
It's been awhile since I have been on this web site. Life just decided to get too busy. I finally after years convinced my husband for us to get an incubator. I was able to get a Little Giant with an egg turner model 9200 still air. I got it off of Craigslist, it's just so expensive new! I contacted someone on in Sherwood Or, that's about a 20 min drive from me, about getting ferti eggs. This is what her ad said, Olive Egger and Easter Egger chicks from our diverse flock. Parents include Creasted Cream Legbar, Isbar, and Easter Egger roos over Marans (several colors) Crested Cream Legbar, Isbar, and Easter Egger hens.

The resulting chicks are a wide range of colors including blues, barred, salmon, splash and more. The eggs they'll lay will be shades of blue, teal, mint green, olive, dark olive, and maybe rosy brown.

Straight run chicks: $6.50 ea or 6/$30

Get a head start:
two week old chicks $7.50 ea or 6/$35

Fertile hatching eggs $20 / dozen
three week old chicks $8.50 ea or 6/$40

So I have incubated eggs before, BUT that was with my Aunt when I was a child. PLEASE can anyone help me. Do I put water in the bottom before I put the eggs in. I bought it yesterday, and put the egg turner in it, and I have been running it. The lady told me it will be later this week that I'll get them. So I'd like to know what I'm doing before then. I have read that you want the temp to be at 99.5. The humidity, I have seen so many different numbers. Also my model doesn't have a fan, is this bad? Do I need to put one in? Any advice would be appreciated, as I want the best results I can get. So please HELP! Thank you. I do miss talking to you all on here.

I think that's kinda pricey for mixed flock eggs, but maybe not in your area.

Without a fan, you will want your temp a little higher than 99.5. More like 100.5 - 101.
You see different humidity numbers because humidity varies greatly with your local conditions. Are you high elevation? How humid is your house, and your local environment?

Kudos for doing your research ahead of time! Come back, we're here to help!

You came to the right place!! I use the 9200, but mine has the fan installed. I'd be more thn willing to help. First still air recommendations are 101-102 with the temp taken near the top of the eggs. (Shoot for 101-101.5). Make sure that you check the thermometers and hygrometer you are using. Before you put any water in it, what is the humidity dry?

This is the humidity guide I use: http://letsraisechickens.weebly.com...anuals-understanding-and-controlling-humidity
