Hands on hatching and help

Hi!
I am currently at day 22. 9 eggs made it to lockdown out of 12. And so far 2 have hatched and are cruising around. A third egg has externally pipped for 24 hours now. I had hoped that it would hatch over night last night. It has made a TINY bit more progress since I saw it last night. I'm pretty sure it pipped at the narrow end of the egg though. But I do know it is still alive. When do I intervene? Or does it sound like I need to at all? This is my first hatch so although my hatch rate is subpar at the moment, I can only go up from here. Next go around I don't plan on going out of town and leaving my husband in charge for 3 days who was over generous with the humidity! Ha! He tried to help! Thanks for your help!

I start assisting at 24 hours. If it's malpositioned in the pointed end you may not be ble to do much more than widen the pip hole, because there might still be prominent veing at the bottom. You can start though and that will let you asses the chick's position better, but if there are still thick veins, stop and give him more time.

So apparently hands on is paying off. I have been sleeping in the living room to keep an eye on my hatch and last night I woke up at 3 am because the heat lamp went off. We lost power for 3 or 4 hours. I filled mason jars with hot water and threw them in the incubator as fast as I could as safely as I could. I think I put 6 8 oz jars in their and a couple of big ones in with the chicks that had hatched already. Then I put towels and a blanket over the brooder and the incubator. I had one that had just hatched running around in the incubator but did not want to take him out. When the power came on the incubator was still at 92! I know it was a temp drop but seriously it's snowing and blowing outside with no heat in the house. I have now had one more hatch since and a few that were pipped last night that are still moving around. I am feeling very good about my first hatch now!

Lots of CHEEPING going on in the bator! Day 20

Got up at 5:30 to go to work and two ameraucana had pipped. A third one has since I left (my husband texted me) so hopefully we will get some zipping and hatching in the next 24 hours.

The pips are all in ameraucana eggs only right now, I felt like they might start first as the eggs are much smaller than the light Sussex and Marans ones. I'm not even sure if that is a "thing" but I'm sticking to it lol

Will post up more pictures when we get more action!!

All this hatching talk is making me itchy. I've lost a couple of birds over the last few days to tainted feed and I could hatch some to replace my losses....
NO! Must wait for my fan to get here....must wait.....
