Hands on hatching and help

Question to anyone who ships eggs.. How much do you folks "clean" them? I know there's a coating you don't want to scratch off(or have been told) but wondered if someone has experience with that?

hi i joined this thread about a week ago, and i do believe in hands on and assisting hatches, if i know what i am doing... and i am learning as i must help my chicks and ducks hatch. my first duck asst, he was upside down, well actually sideways, didnt make it for a few reasons. i can tel you that story later

I NEED HELP at this moment with a Red Dorking that is externally pipping at the wrong end. this is what happend to my duckling and i think i helped him out of his shell too soon. I am afraid to do anything at this point for my chick, for fear of doing things wrong.
what should i do at this time?

thanks for any help.. it is 10:30am Idaho time, Wed

What I like to do is chip away enough shell so I can get a better look at them. Of course I also make sure that their nostrils are free of shell, membrane, fluid, etc. Then I crank the humidity up, and this last hatch I draped a paper towel over them to keep the blowing air from drying them out, and that worked really well.

Hopefully others will chime in.

To others, please post what's on your mind, do not worry about contradicting me or stepping on my toes!

as far as i can tell the membrane is not broken open yet?? do i make a hole in the membrane and pull a little of that away?
this egg is on day 19.
i did put a moist towel over the crack and dab it a little and then took it away & put if off to the side and the towel the egg is sitting on is wet/moist.
anything ive missed?
thank you so much for your reply

Only day 19 and less than 12 hours.... I'd leave it alone for a while.

Your air cell line looks small, it may have just not turned, and could hatch on its own. I'd give it till tomorrow morning, as long as its active. JMO
