That is funny! Do you know what colors his parents were?
So so so adorable!!
Especially with shipped eggs! I had one In my last hatch that pipped underneath and wrong end. When I finally started helping I saw his foot was right up above the crown of his head. I'm so happily surprised he was able to pip at all. Now I don't even know which one that was.
My friend bought some hatching eggs locally from me and gave me 2 of the chicks back....noticed today that they are both definitely boys! Ugh. I won't eat a silkie boy!...to many feathers, to little meat!

Yes, his parents are a Paint and Black hen, I have both parents. You see when it comes to paints, anything can pop out. I also have a Partridge, NO I don't have a Partridge parent in this coop but I have a Partridge that hatched FROM the paints Parent..

Well the 3 that were still alive are hanging in there in the incubator the internal pipped one's veins are starting to receed finally the other 2 are just goofing off in their egg shell still, got all the stuff just trying to locate where son hid the tools to to fix up a s cooler to do lock down next time.

Silkies went out to live in the run with the other one weekers I got from MPC.  So far they are doing great.  We did lose one little yellow one....still not sure what happened but she never seemed to be growing like the others and wasn't as active either.  Glad I decided to keep them in the house a few more days than I usually do, but NOT glad that Katie found her.  Sluf (the little NN that came out of an Australorp egg), Wilbur (The Cream Legbar once called Sweet Pea) and of course the Olive Egger Yokel (the first ever hatch here) have been out for sometime and are fully integrated with the adults.  

I can't thank you all enough for your assistance and support.  And of course, @RubyNala97
 for showing that shipped eggs don't always mean bad eggs!!

You did all the work, Blooie!! And you did a great job!! Sorry Katie had to find the chick you lost. We had 4 chicks with a new mom that took over sitting the last week. Well she never switched from sitting mode to mama mode and didn't get up with the chicks to bring them to food or water. My 10 year found 1 chick laying next to the mom, dead. He ran in the house crying. It broke my heart that he had to find it, so I know how you feel.

Well, I'm having a great experience with my shipped eggs. e

19 eggs received. 2 were clear, 1 blood ring within the first week. All other 16 made it to lockdown. So far 9 have hatched. 2 still have pips. Of the other 5, 4 were similar looking eggs, like from the same hen, and 3 of them had alot more fluid at lockdown, but I could still see movement at that point. I pulled one of them when I got chicks out, and it was DIS, so I assume the other 3 are also. Last one could be DIS also, or could still hatch.

So overall, I am ecstatic with the results. For having the lethal gene carried from their Japanese roots, I consider myself very lucky today! Will post some pics soon.

Oh, the smallest one weighed 13.2 grams when I got it out of the bator. That's the weight of 5 pennies! Lol they are a little bigger than the quail I hatched, but not much!

Yes, paints are very Interesting, I never know what to exspect, I had a couple of white ones pop out BUT as they got older and the big boy feathers came in and sure enough so did the SPOTS. LOL they were hidden under the baby fluff..

Wouldn't that be a hoot? The little one we lost would likely (and as I'm getting to know Silkies I stress "likely") have been another red paint, but her markings were very light and difficult to see.

It does stink when the little kids find the chicks we lose, but as Katie says, "You do what you can and leave the rest up to God, Gramma."

So glad you had a decent hatch. Can't wait to see pics as they feather out and see the differences/similiarities of all these Ruby silkies....lol

Solardaz, do you have to stay awake all during lock-down to keep re-setting your temp? I personally do not feel a temp spike of 102 would kill the embryo/chicks. I again feel if its a day 21 or 22 egg and you break it open if it has a lot of veins, bleeding etc -----You had problems for days-----that egg is days behind. Sorry for the problems---hope it gets better.

He said that when the temp went up to 102 the humidity had dropped significantly. I assumed he contributed the death of the pippers to the spike because of the resulting humidity drop being so low. I could be assuming wrong though. He is also in a high elevation, which as we know can be a big hurdle to overcome, but he's constantly making progress.

not one single one Thanks to your advice

waiting on veins to recceed on the one that was internally pipped, she's drinking water though from a q tip too, she's alert at least, 1 i don't think will make it but ya never know and the other one is doing all sorts of flips

Could be a coincidence.

I do know that since I changed my turning methods the only eggs that I have had any trouble with being malpositioned are those green eggs from my daughter nn/ee that I have struggled with the last two hatches. Not a single one in any of my other eggs including the mother nn/ee.

first time I tried it had 2, only diff this time was higher humidity and got 0. But did notice the last hatch and this one had a few that were a little behind the others so gotta figure out what that is about.

Eggs were gathered same day and stored at room temp until all were put in the incubator 2 days later

Maybe cool spots in the bator? I know even with my fan, I still can tell you where the known differences are in temps.
