Hands on hatching and help

Turns out the humidity has been 20% higher than what my incubator has been showing  I now have it set right but what do I do for the eggs that were affected by the high humidity? I put some in 12 days ago not knowing about the humidity. Should I dry it out in there?

If the humidity has been too high and the air cells are too small, yes, I would run dry for a few days but keep an eye on the air cells.

Thanks! I'm happy for everyone that got them. I did a major update on my phone...maybe I should try the app again. I never know what's going on on byc!

I will look for that email now...about the paint boy and see if she is near you.
That is interesting. Did they pip then zip right away? Or was it a pip then time them zip?

Remember that hatch of a dozen Calls I did that most pipped and zipped on their own? It was that batch... I waited and went in to do the safe holes after they had been internal pipped for over a day, but a couple already had external pips... I proceeded to make safe holes in all the rest, went back to check a little later and ones with safe holes were external pipping... they all external pipped, and after the regular wait time then they zipped... the ones that external pipped before the safe holes hatched same as the ones with... they all hatched within a few hours of each other and in random order just like regular hatches...

I didn't write it...lol I just read it in various articles. But my answer would be the Co2 is only the catalysts for the initial pip. Once you have an artificial pip they will at some point progress as though they would if they had pipped. Maybe once they've had the air and strengthened their lungs things progress naturally. When people ask me for advice in making the safety hole I explain what I've read and point out by that logic it may take them longer to progress on it's own, but I've done safety holes a couple times and they progressed on their own after a while

Oh, I wasn't saying you wrote it, lol... just making a comment from my experience... like I said to Ruby, they hatched the same along with the others with no discernable differences is all...

I'll have to dig, but I think I took some pics from that hatch...

Just try not to go lower than 20%, that seems to cause it's own issues... but I agree with Amy, run dry for a few days and monitor the air cells... :)

ok, x3 then! lol

You can purchase eggs on here or on ebay. Shipped eggs can be hard but the more locally you can find them better. I have had good hatches from RubyNala97 and those were shipped from new York to california.

Likewise with eggs shipped from @RubyNala97 , from New York to northwestern Wyoming.

Thank you both for the recommendation. (Hi Blooie! Our 2 lone chicks are loving the MHP!)

I've been hesitant to go with shipped eggs as my incubator's so small and I know there's a lower hatch rate, although after this experience with local eggs, maybe I'd do better with shipped!

We also live in an urban area and have a super small flock, so I'm being really picky about breed. If Ruby or anyone else on here is a good source for Ameraucanas or Wellsummers, let me know! I'm trying to add some pretty colors to our egg basket!

I want to say the couple I did took roughly about the same time to progress as my early to pip chicks did, but I've noticed with my hatches, the early birds, (like day 19 pippers, take a whole 24 hours plus to progress from pip to zip, but my hatches that are closer or at day 21, seem to take a fraction of the time to progress through those stages.

Yeah, I don't like it going that low either, but I seldom dip below 20-25 completely dry. (Unless I hatch in winter when the pellet stove is on and that will never happen again unless I'm hatching for someone else that is going to pick up those chicks within days...lol)

Add me the Ruby fan club...lol All of my silkies came from hers. Lol

Ok, question. Most of people's emoticons are coming up with the code and not the pic for me. Is it just this stupid iPad, or is anyone else seeing-or not seeing them?

Seems to be getting fixed right now, although some of the older ones, I still see the code, but new ones, I see the

Ok, thanks girls. I noticead it yesterday, but wasn't sure if it was just something screwy with the iPad app or the iPad itself.
